I'm actually finishing season 5 right now only ep 21 & 22 is left, which is one reason for me not being here alot, my wife calculated that I had spend 22 by an average of 40 min. = 73,3 hours on this.. I do however enjoy it to its fullest.. not sure I like S 5 as much as I enjoyed s1-s2-s3-s4.

I got the 5 seasons as a present from my wife after she sort of screwed up ;-).. not seriously though, just in a manner of speaking. And I think she is looking forward to me ending watching it..

however being me and reviewing the station details I was inspired to take the Babylon 5 station approach and apply it to a Coriolis station, i.e.. a non rotating dock at the top.. and possibly big ship manual docking..

I tried to make a top non rotating section of the Coriolis to dock with, it did however so far not turn out in any fashion that I liked, So I restrained myself to only adding "side launching bays" and a more significant main docking bay as well as extruding the sides of the Coriolis to accomodate for reasonable areas to place windows. It got one direct clone of Bab 5, the Command and Control area..

The windows are light maps that can be randomly turned on/off via a shader I suppose.

Here is how the station looks in max with a standard sky lightning ( yes i know stupid since it is in space, however it makes a good render)

Image

I hope to have defence ships launching from the side as in B5 via a script. and hopefully not being smashed by the rotating station the size is about 1 km in diameter..

But that is not all, I made a short version of the b5 station... I did plan to put it in Oolite and see how it fairs, until i realized the size of the thing in Oolite meters

Its 24 km or 24000 Oolite meters long..

anyway here is where i got at it with it..

Image

I hope i can release the Coriolis when im done..

Edit:
new coriolis is about 1800 polygons strongs atm
the bab 5 short station is about 3000
the Thunderbolt that is my avator pic is about 3000 polies too and homemade

Image

apart from that in various states i got

IPX icarus (3000 poly)
Image
Image

Centari Sentri Interceptor (500 poly)(no pc)
Narn Heavy Frazi fighter (about 500 poly)(no pic)

Nova Dreadnought/destroyer (no texture, and problems with the articulated turrets)

Have a look at the guard station in TCAT - that does something along those lines. It is a little tricky to set things up so the station doesn't smack into the ships it just launched, but it is possible with a suitable AI and suitable ship stats.

But I do like the designs. Would be interesting to see the B5 in-game anyway, especially at that size ;)

What can I say...that B5 could live in my Ooniverse anyday, whatever size it is. :)

Very cool ships Frame. I hope you will Oolityfy the models just a bit more and then release them. The Coriolis idea sound really cool!

I know nothing about Babylon 5, but am curious:

1) How much more work needs to be done to properly recreate the Babylon 5 universe (ships, stations, equipment, etc) within Oolite?

2) Would all this be easily mergeable into another universe - say that of cim's SOTL Altmap? It is easy (even for a non-programmer such as myself) to include other oxp's into SOTL, although the scenario is unfinished, probably unbalanced and tweaks the vanilla game in a number of ways. But it does feature power-blocks in each galaxy as well as unpopulated systems.

I'd rather like to put up a wiki page if you are willing to publish any oxp's.

The Omega-class destroyer Lave...

It was fun docking with that ship! B5 was easily the best sci-fi TV series! I believe there's a reboot in the pipeline.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Probably! She was fighting gooks when I had the privilege of testing a mission for the player.

I don't know, "the best" is a real hydra when talking about sci-fi TV series ;)

If you didn't make this comment at a time when "they" try to punch down our throats a "Foundation" series _totally_ disconnected from the original work of art which is the novel series, my mood might've been sweetened by the hope.

... I wouldn't know!
It's queued up right after StarWars 9 on my "to -- maybe -- watch sometimes after Christmas & new Expanse season & new Witcher season list"*, when, maybe, this humiliation will be looked back at.
[*] Star Trek: Discovery is not on that list due to other reasons, not that it's missing, alright?!

Star Wars and Star Trek have never been, nor will they ever be, on my list to watch (if had one, that is).
A rebooted Babylon 5 however would certainly be on it. Foundation? No, probably not... nor Dune.

Here's hoping that because the original creator is supposedly involved in it, it will be able to capture what made the originals great. I'd expect he already aligned Christopher Franke for the music, for a good starting omen, at least :-D

If you want a real hard-core sci-fi movie, perhaps Lightyear would be of interest.
