An interesting planet to visit?

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

One jump, turn left at Barnard's Star, two or three more jumps... and you're there.

I don’t usually go for artist’s illustrations of how a planetary system may look, but I like this one:
Gliese 581g, dubbed Zarmina’s World by the project leader of the team that detected it.

At full size, it's 3300x2475.

I'm sure I bought some cheap furs there recently. :D

Nice bump mapping on the planetary texture - but where are the city lights thus proving intelligent life?

There are no citylights on batplanet. 8)

DaddyHoggy, please where is the topic with the ship you built ? Something Johnny Bravo or the like ?

I can't find it neither with the search, nor by digging through your posts. (well after 20 pages I got bored).

If it's a red star, then why is the light on the planet in the illustration so white? :?

The same side of the planet always faces the sun, so any residents may not have ever needed to develop artificial lighting on city sized scales. And that'd be assuming that the same section of the spectrum is "visible light" to them in the first place. Ans since the most temperate and stable climate would be on the edge between dark and light, "night and day" for them would be a matter of travel rather than a cyclic event.

There might also be no "radio waves" if they have some other means of communication over distance. If we had developed something like the internet before developing radio and TV transmissions we might have no large scale use for "radio waves" needing to go more than a mile or two (if even that).
Sleep? Who needs sleep? Got game. No need sleep.

A friend and I were talking. If they are 20 ly away, then episodes of the Simpsons and Beverly Hills 90210 are just starting to reach them. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

We just have to wait for 20 more years to get their answer.

Well, they're also watching Baywatch, I hope they have a sort of fetish for "hot alien bikini ladies".

I also think Steven Vogt's declaration about abitable planets it's a little optimistic.
My ship list:

Cobra MK 3 - Lepka
Dragon M - Smaug
Python - Boa Pitonato
Cobra MK 3 - Lepka II
Now in a Python ET Special - Shark Panzer

[G5] -= Deadly =- (3720 Kills)
