o.k. I apologise if this has been reported before, but after looking through 6 pages of bug-reports and not finding the issue I lost the will to (live) spend even more time looking.

I am encountering a strange issue - If standard Thargoid ships show up - they behave as expected (shooting at me, launching Robotic ships etc.) but if "Thargoid Invaders", "Thargoid Armoured Invaders" or "Thargoid Battleships" show up - they just sit there waiting to be destroyed (great for my stats but strangely unsatisfying). Is there a fix for this? (Please do not suggest I upgrade to V 1.74.x - I am on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) and 1.74.x does not (yet) work for that version. Is this a known bug? Am I likely to see a fix below 1.74.x?

Not quite right in everything you say. I am running v1.74.1 quite happily on Lucid (Ubuntu 10.04). It works fine and is completely glitch-free. I actually carried my install over from Karmic when I updated the OS, some time after updating Oolite.

Edit:- Sorry, just read my post again and it's informative but not helpful.
This thread is worth a read, and if you still have any concerns pop a post on the Oolite Linux forum (here on the Board). There's folks there who know far more than I do.
Go for the upgrade...1.74.X is hugely better than it's predecessors, and it's well worth doing.

All those Thargoid types are from OXPs, it might well be that they've got a bug/are not intended for the version of Oolite you're running.

And I can confirm that if you download and run the autopackage (it's on http://oolite.org/download.shtml) you won't have any problems at all on lucid.

Unfortunately lucid itself is broken (they somehow chose a buggy unstable version of GNUStep for LTS... - let's hope they upgrade lucid to use GNUStep 20.1 soon).

I don't think Oolite 1.73.x was aware of Lucid's brokenness, so you might be getting more problems than if you were to use the 1.74.2 autopackage...

I performed the following actions:

1. Opened [b]Software Sources[/b] and changed:
http://debs.oolite.org/ lucid test
to

2. Opened [b]Synaptic Package Manager[/b] and removed oolite V1.73.4 completely.

3. Downloaded and installed oolite 1.74.1.3629-0jaunty

4. When I start Oolite now the small status screen appears - then after a few seconds disappears.

In my home directory a file named [b].xsession-errors[/b] has appeared containing the following code:

No Oolite version from repositories can be made lucid proof, unless the lucid maintaners update lucid's Gnustep version to 1.20.1 or above.

The bug you just had is because of the broken plist parsing included with Gnustep 1.19(unstable, but unfortunately the standard lucid version)

You need to use the autopackage one, it provides Gnustep 1.18 (the previous stable version) for Oolite to use.

If you are to install the autopackage Oolite, make sure to first
remove from synaptic the currently installed version of Oolite.

Your saves and AddOns will not be affected.
