Escorts
How about escort ships (from the hired guns oxp) charging you extra - at the end of a journey - if you have made them into offenders or fugitives? Just an idea.
Who'd do the charging? They're not hired from an agencySwiteck wrote:Better yet, make it so you take a large credit loss (1000 or more?) if you get them killed.
Not keen on the idea of charges etc, especially as the hired guns don't have a legal rating (if you ID them with a target identifier you'll see they don't show as clean/offender/fugitive). As their employer, they follow your directions so if you make them fugitive, it's only by making yourself so as well...

Same agency that insures escape pods.Thargoid wrote:Who'd do the charging? They're not hired from an agencySwiteck wrote:Better yet, make it so you take a large credit loss (1000 or more?) if you get them killed.
It's a game balance thing...getting hired escorts killed should have some consequence and a loss of credits seems the simplest one to do.

Well, I'd think it's kind of the point of a "hired gun" that they know the risks and that's why they charge the fee they do.
Consider a point of ecOonomics.. A ton of food costs average about 5 cr in Oolite. To use a "cheap" food as an example, we'll assume it's wheat (for the sake of discussion). Wheat typically averages somewhere between 150$ and 200$ (USD) a ton on the current Earth commodities market. Therefore an Oolite CR is worth about 30$ (to be on the conservative side). So if a "hired gun" costs 1,500 CR for the pair of them, they're charging 45 grand (current Earth USD) for the trip. Paid in advance.
Considering that they're only hired to see you safely to the station on your next hop, that's typically going to be for less than 24 hrs of work.
At that price and those terms, they can watch out for their own ass. LOL
If you feel bad about it, toss a few CR into the pixel-people widow(er)s and orphans fund jar when you make it the station or buy the bar a round in their memory.
Now what could be interesting is if there was a *chance* that they'd bail out on you if the odds look too overwhelming. Like if you and your escorts were outnumbered by more than 2 to 1, each of your hired guns could have a 10% chance of just quietly turning tail and running. "Umm.. Sorry, but you're on your own, Commander.."
