Thanks McLane... it must be the BGS oxp that makes it more audible to my old ears.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

It is just what sound you were used to. I do have problems with the hit-sound of BGS. I was so used to the old one that I easy distinguished between hit and miss. With the BGS it took me a while to get used to the two new sounds. I am sure they are just as good to distinguish, but not in the beginning when you focus on an other difference.

I always play Oolite with loud music going (be it rock or classical), which is probably why I missed the sound difference before.
Now that I've noticed it with BGS, it's a real help, as was the splash effect.

Hehe, yes, different. And after a while you won't notice it anymore until installing another soundpack. As I'm playing with it for several month now I don't even notice the whole pack anymore, but this was the same with customsounds.oxp. Now it is confusing to play vanilla Oolite .-)

And as El Viejo has pointed out the difference between both sounds is a bit more feelable in BGS to help the player a bit more.
