Another quick and easy one:

Britain is a mess, due to global warming and rising sea-levels, compounded by a disastrous socialist government.
A high-tech company hires an ex-soldier to investigate thefts from a satellite, and attacks on the company’s founder.

The novel’s title and author, please.

The author is English and contemporary, and well known for massive space opera.
This was his first novel, and became the first part of a trilogy.

Correct... it's a very good read, and all too plausible.
Over to you, sir.

I thik this one counts as massive space opera too.

Author and title of the series, please.

Clue (obscureish one first, more later):

One of the numerous key elements of the plot is a collection of stories which happens to share names with the series.

First book of the series starts with humans using technology discovered from a long-extinct race.

This event triggers aggression from another ancient race, which results in hugely devastating war.

In the series humans encounter beings that live in stars, others that live in gas giants's cores, sentient trees, sentient water and star-faring insectoids.

Sorry folks had one of those 'unavoidable' experiences life throws up from time to time.

This award winning novel was the first by a new author. Part of a series which loosely links the characters and background. Although published first chronologically it is third in the series. The series is named after this book.

Set in UK in not to distant future, people are able to access an alternate reality via a drug delivered by feather, eventually these visions become objective reality.
