Graphics Problem

Post by masao-hyren »

I seem to have an issue with every build over 1.65. The game starts and the music plays but the graphics display intermittently and i can only input key strokes if i time it correctly with the flashing graphic. The screen like wise is black for 40 or so seconds at a time average.

this is what the terminal says for 1.73
2010-07-12 21:22:05.614 oolite[14593] Unknown time zone name `CST'.
2010-07-12 21:22:05.614 oolite[14593] Using time zone with absolute offset 0.
2010-07-12 21:22:05.614 oolite[14593] File NSUserDefaults.m: 615. In [NSUserDefaults +standardUserDefaults] Improper installation: No language locale found
I can get more terminals from higher versons

Beyond that im running Linux Ubuntu 10.04

No problem! It feels like we didn't do anything, though! ;)

Out of curiosity, what graphic card ( & driver) do you have?
That might be what's causing the problem in windowed mode...

By the way, welcome to the friendliest board this side of Riedquat! :)

That seems to explain everything.

In short: Intel 950 is crap. Sorry!

Currently I have a crappy card too. On my next PC (when I get a job anyway) I'll probably go for an NVIDIA card, as these seem to have the least problems with Oolite.

Maybe you could start a Kickstarter Campaign to found your £4500 pledge. 8)

Like JazHaz said - it's not the ATI cards - it's their useless OpenGL Drivers and sucky tech support that lets them down - until this is rectified (I've been waiting +10 years for this to happen so don't hold your breath!) I would recommend Nvidia.

Same problem here...nice computer (running Ubuntu Karmic) with a crappy intel graphics accelerater.
Full-screen mode (f12) sorts out most of the problems, but you might also find (like me) that the frame-rate suffers if there are lots of large or complex textures used by OXPs. This results in jerky rendering and/or the whole thing stopping for half a second or so. :(
The answer here is to opt for the low- or standard-definition version of any OXPs you're using where these are available. :?

Graphics Problem

This resembles to the issue addressed here.
Resizing the Oolite window, by dragging a side or a corner, might resolve it.

EDIT: Disabling visual-effects, as described here, might do the trick too.
