First off, I haven't been through all the other posts yet, so if I'm repeating someone else's idea, my apologies. However, as noted above, it's a minor idea, so possibly no-one else bothered to think of it yet
Here's what I have in mind: to thicken the near edge of the radar ellipse, and perhaps thin the far edge slightly. This would enhance the perspective illusion, but stay within the philosophy of keeping true to the original (ie. no gameplay or mechanics impact, only purely visual.)
Minor 3D radar tweak suggestion

Full throttle and fuel injectors - now THAT's the way to park!

Hi, myst.RAVEN, welcome to the boards! Friendliest forum this side of Riedquat, or your money back ...
The HUD can be redesigned to your heart's content: check out the downloadable alternatives on the wiki here. I don't think any of the alternative HUDs use your idea – which sounds like a decent one to me ... The DeepSpace HUD is particularly pretty, though, and does have the illusion of depth too.

[hears a disembodied voice, looks around...]
Friendly and active too, apparently I'm blown away with how many people are on here - would never have guessed that Elite has lived on in so many minds.
Thanks for the tip - will look it up right away (Though I suspect I will wait a couple of weeks before I start installing any mods or such - loving reliving a purist version for the time being, though admittedly wire-mesh didn't last beyond two flights, and I'm content with having textures on objects.)
Thanks again
EDIT: Oh, man, that's some sweet stuff there! Just took a look at the alternative HUDs. I suspect vanilla Oolite may make way for some choc-chip goodness rather sooner than I intended! (Or, maybe I'll just alternate...)
