You can press F12 to toggle fullscreen on/off or change the setting from the Game Options menu (F2, then select Game Options...). Your settings are saved when exiting the game.

What is the equivalent of F12 on a MacBook?

In Game Options, changing the screen options crashes the program.

If I remember right, pressing "f" on the Mac toggles between fullscreen and windowed mode.

"f" is to display the framerate, cmd+"f" toggles fullscreen.
