ECM While Docked - Trunk
Hi, this has happened since a few Trunk versions past. When i'm docked for a good 10mins or so i get a rather loud ECM sound coming through my speakers. It's not annoying me in any way i just thought i'd point it out.
Or am i going nuts?

There's probably a battle going on outside.. life (and death) in the Ooniverse does go on even when you're docked. if you exit the station quickly enough, you may even get to join in the fight..
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

In space no-one can hear you scream.NorthenderPNE wrote:Surely though if you're docked inside a large station surely they would have sound proofing?
Therefore the ECM is an alarm sounding inside your ship.

But it isn't an alarm it's an engaged ECM from a ship outside the station. Not very nice when considering i docked my ship and went to the cafe on deck 7 for a brew. And out of nowhere comes a loud ECM going off. Everyone ran for cover, except me of course. Therefore the ECM is an alarm sounding inside your ship.
Oh, i did file a complaint to the station master. Doubt he'll follow it up.

A Quote from JazHaz:

Huh? they scan the surroundings of the station and transmit every
ECM-"warning" ( warning? from what? ) to the inside of every ship
docked at the station?
°coughs up letters of styrofoam that form the word
"L O G I C" on the floor after they tumbled to the ground°
It is much more probable, that that is just the pizzabot
demanding a tip.

Every ship has a semi-passive ECM detector, which is active at all times. When an ECM wave is detected, an alarm is sent to the captain’s standard neural implant over the local intrawebs. Naturally the ship is connected to the station’s intrawebs when the captain is out and about.Yrol_Denjeah wrote:Huh? they scan the surroundings of the station and transmit every ECM-"warning" ( warning? from what? ) to the inside of every ship docked at the station?

Anywho, you'll be pleased to know that in 1.74 the neuroalarm thingumajig won't be triggered when the captain's enjoying a space drink, or indeed any of the station's amenities & services...
Hey, free OXPs: farsun v1.05 & tty v0.5! :0)
Yes, afaik! I really should have said 'the ECM neuroalarm thingumajig', but didn't want to sound too technical!

I saw Ahruman climbing ladders and bolting a kind of foam at the inside of all station walls.NorthenderPNE wrote:Surely though if you're docked inside a large station surely they would have sound proofing?

And yet...
Where is the underlying Logic?
If the sound we hear is a warning that someone
( including our own ) ECM-Pulse hitting our ship/systems,
why would there be such a thing?
To warn us that we, some seconds ago, better not have had fired
a missile, because it might have had been destroyed?
Because the "threat" to such missile would be gone already,
if we would fire it now.
If however, it is some form of feedback the ECM-pulse itself
induces on our ships hull or the electronical systems,
it would not be heard, because we are in the, without doubt,
well protected station.

but, isnt it a great feature of the game that you get told (in middle of buying and selling cargo) that there might be a chance to get bonus bounty/kill points just outside?
As for logic, how about it's a warning to station inhabitants that a fight is going on outside that escalated to involve ECM systems being activated. Granted local police and bounty hunters can probably sort it out, but additional help from clean-living volunteers would be appreciated.
