One minor side effect is that it will also appear in the shipyard with that name.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Thanks, I hoped it might be something as simple as that. Now to think of something suitably interesting for me...

edit: it seems that phpbb doesn't like braces in url strings, odd!

It's '_(The_Culture)' bit it doesn't seem to like, for some reason.

Lots of good ship names there... or you could think up your own.

Well, two reasons, actually. Namely '(' and ')'. Better known when linked to as '%28' and '%29', respectively.

Yeah, I saw Palmski's edit after I'd posted. The url won't link properly without them, though.

You can just replace the brackets with their URL-encoding reference, though:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sh ... Culture%29

and then put it inside url tags!

If you want to make your named ship unique, you can make a simple OXP to create an individually-named ship with the same stats and value as the original, make sure it doesn't appear for sale anywhere (set <key>chance</key> to <real>0</real> in the shipyard.plist), and give it to your player.

Thanks Disembodied, for both tips.

edit to add: re the second tip, as the Griff multidecal Cobra III is player only, I only had to adjust that ship’s shipyard.plist.

Interesting, never knew those characters would need encoding. Live and learn!

I'll give the oxp a bash, it'll be a nice little intro for me - I've been meaning to give something a try just to see how it worked but had no inspiration.

@El Viejo, I'll think of my own name, just thought I would link some of my favourite ones.

The problem with Culture ship-names is, there are so many good ones that choosing just one is difficult.. I finally settled on one from Excession.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Just been having a slow browse through that list of Culture ship names... I'd forgotten how good most of them are. A great writer!

This is Griff's best till now IMO. I like the engines on this model better. The older ships all have a sort of blue/red border around the engines. Not to say that those are bad. Of course not. Just I like this one the most till now :)

Good work! 8)

All the other ships have had protruding exhaust ports which get super heated by [insert techno-babble here] - there's nothing protruding on the Boa - however, there's no exhaust plumes on these shots so I suspect the engines weren't running and therefore the shader code for engine heating probably hasn't kicked in.
