Planet Texture Problem Trunk 3314 -3316

Post by NorthenderPNE »

Hi, when selecting detailed planets off in the options menu i get the following problem. It's using the metal.png texture from the texture folder. The third picture proves this as i selected the missile texture and renamed it to metal.png. Detailed planets is fine but i prefer detailed planets off. Hope it will be fixed in the next Trunk. Or there's a solution to this problem.

This is from Trunk 3280, and is fine.

This is from Trunk 3314, and is the same in 3316.

This is missile.png renamed to metal.png.

The change to use metal.png happened on revision 3300 and, as far as I can see, it was completely intentional.

Any reason why, as i think it looks horrible! It was much better before in my opinion. I loved the splats of color. Now its bland! it's put me off playing it now as the planets are just Grey dull blobs. Gutted!!!!!! :(

Please put the original textures back, please, please please. :D

The planet colour is just a matter of personal taste. I never found those big chunks of colour looking realistic. But on the mac we had no alternative. Detailed planets often crashed on the mac within several jump so it was never selectable on the mac.

The crashing bug on the mac seems to be solved and detailed planets is made again available on the mac since above builds. I haven't had a crash till now. Tock tock... (knocking on wood).

But back to the texture bug in above builds. There is one. Setting a custom texture in not possible anymore. A custom texture is only generated for the miniatures, but not for the real thing.

Works fine here.

Edit: But only through planetinfo.plist, not JavaScript. Bah. Stupid planets, who needs them anyway?
