Can anyone recommend a FREE video editing package (Windows)

Post by JazHaz »

Want to edit a video that I have downloaded from YouTube.

I have Windows Movie Maker, but it doesn't work properly for me, all the videos have a green tinge to them, in it. :|

Maybe you could start a Kickstarter Campaign to found your £4500 pledge. 8)
Thanks to Gimi, I got an eBook in my inbox tonight (31st May 2014 - Release of Elite Reclamation)!

hi JazHaz, sorry i can't recommend a free video editor program but do you think the green tinge is coming from the program you've used to download the original video? maybe it's been captured in a format moviemaker doesn't work with happily? anyway i just wanted to say some of the students on our IT courses have used the 'lite' (free) version of save2pc ( w w w save2pc.com ) to download a youtube clip to a wmv file then used that in windows movie maker with good results.

I've managed the download fine, in both .flv and .wmv formats. The latter plays fine in Windows Media Player, so you would think that Windows Movie Maker would be fine. But no!

Or you might want to give VirtualDub a try. Bit of a learning curve to it, but you can do a lot of stuff with it! :)
Hey, free OXPs: farsun v1.05 & tty v0.5! :0)

I second VirtualDub.

The easy functions are not that much to learn.

You can get a gazillion of filters for it, and them do require learning, and for me also try and error.
(which is not so much fun on a really slow computer as mine, missing the "real-time-preview")

Changing the hue is a b**** though, to get it correct.
But if it is always the same green tinge, once found you can always load the same filter/settings with the next file.

Plugins, also the one needed to load a wmv file : http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/

Get avisynth with it, if yo want to learn (and do) even more. :P

Thanks for the replies. Have downloaded Avidemux, but will also keep in mind VirtualDub.

I don't want to do much more than cropping the video that I've downloaded.
