consistant freeze after 20-30 mins of play

Post by HHhhmmmm »

As the title says, can play for so long do so many jumps and the game slowly grinds to a halt using the oxp`s listed in the log, with none there is no problem, even with 2 or three memory continues to fill till the system locks up starts of using 2 or 300 megs then slowly climbs till it locks up. With the listed oxp`s it uses around 550megs and will hang when it gets to around 570, have had mention in the logs of an internal error but didnt save it, put it down to too many oxps, anyway ideas suggestions?

Another question i notice no compatability mode, is this due to programining limitations or is windows missing something?

Thanks in advance

Given that you're using the 1.74 test version and very few OXPs are guaranteed not to misbehave under this then it could be something odd in any of them.

As you don't run very many, you could add them one at a time and play to see if the problem occurs - when it does (finally) occur, remove all but the last added OXP to clarify that this is the offending OXP (and to make sure it's not two or more oxps working in collaboration!)

HTH and good luck!

Hi HHhhmmmm and welcome to the forum.

Unless you already have the latest driver, I'd recommend trying a GPU driver update... this page will take you there.

ATI/AMD state that Catalyst version 10.2 is available for the X800 series, but I'd go for the 10.1, it's more stable.
You can find it here.

Good luck.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Hello, and welcome to the friendliest board this side of Riedquat! (tm)

You're definitely better off playing 1.73.4! :)

The '1.74' nightly builds are basically snapshots of the code as we're working towards an actual 1.74 release, are absolutely not guaranteed to actually do anything useful gamewise, and will generally have quite a few 'interesting' bugs, depending on exactly which feature is being worked on at the minute.
Hey, free OXPs: farsun v1.05 & tty v0.5! :0)

Kaks is absolutely right about using 1.74 for gameplay. Having said that, we do seem to have some crash issues with latest trunk. I quite often receive CTDs when launching from Lave, which, annoyingly, are completely backtraceless. I am not even sure when they started occuring either. Just when you think you got them sorted, they come back. How rude.

Thanks for the replies,

i did go back to 1.73, noticed a big difference in the lighting, much better in 1.74, as to the original problem it seems to be fine in 1.73 memory usage never seemed to climb too high in 1.73 yet in 1.74 constantly climbling till the system refuses to respond, ahh well still nice playing an old favourite....nice job, thanks all.... cya

Just to be perfectly clear: The latest version of Oolite is 1.73.4. There is no "going back" to it, because there is nothing ahead of it, and there is no such thing as version 1.74 yet.

What you first installed is a building site, not a game. And on a building site all kinds of accidents can and will happen, especially if you don't wear your security helmet.

When enough time passes, a new playable version of Oolite will be published, and it will be called version 1.74. But until then, if you intend to play (as opposed to being hit by falling debris from the very shiny 104th floor), the very latest version is 1.73.4.
