AddOns not accepting symlinks as directories?
I have .Oolite/AddOns directory on ext4 filesystem, and a symlink to griff_shipset_dizzy's_all_in_1.oxp directory on another partition, with ntfs.
Oolite didn't load the addon, only when I deleted the symlink and copied all the files over.

Hi singalen, and first of all welcome to the boards!
I think Oolite only can run from one partition at a time.
But I am sure that one of the resident OS-wizards has a better understanding of that.
Oh, and as your question seems to deal with a situation on your OS, it would probably be a good idea to ask it in the forum which deals with that OS instead of here, and be it only because another person with a similar problem might start looking over there.

I've got nothing to contribute myself, since I don't know why Oolite doesn't see the symlinked oxp(s). As far as I know it just relies on the underlying operating system, and unices are normally very good at handling symlinks. I can only speculate that it doesn't like jumping from ext4 to ntfs. I suppose the easiest thing to do is just to copy the ntfs oxps onto the ex4 partition...
Hey, free OXPs: farsun v1.05 & tty v0.5! :0)

AddOns not accepting symlinks as directories?
Hi singalen and welcome to the friendliest board this side of Riedquat.
(I always wanted to say that first!)
Some addition to what snork said.
Could you confirm that your NTFS partition is mounted at startup (i.e. in /etc/fstab)?
Please, note that if you try to access it, then it is most probably automounted,
therefore, this does not give you a hint of a mount at startup.
Could you open a terminal and check the symlink?

Code: Select all
$ cd <path-to-symlink-location>
$ ln -s <path-to-ntfs-folder> <symlink-name>
$ ls -ld <symlink-name>

Sorry gentlemen, I misinformed you.
Symlink to NTFS does work, it's just different thing.
Either Griff's modpack applies not to all Koriolis stations, or the game doesn't load some models sometimes.
Also, the modified models are not shown on game opening screen.
Will test in more throughly and get back with report.
(I use oolite 1.73.4/1.73.5 on Ubuntu Lucid)

Hi singalen, and welcome!
You're correct, only a percentage of Coriolis Stations are replaced with Griff style stations, and the Griff ships will show in the opening screen if you give it enough time. It depends how many OXPs you have installed.. you can toggle through the ships/stations/objects on the opening screen using the left/right arrow keys.

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
