Hi all,
I downloaded some oxps to use with Oolite 1.73.4 on Ubuntu 9.10. The game runs fine, but as far as I can tell, the OXPs aren't being used (based on the fact that when I launch out of a station I see the usual navigation buoy instead of a billboard from Your Ad Here).
I thought this might be because I added the OXPs after I'd been playing for a while and the saved game from before wouldn't use them - but I started a new game, and same thing - no billboard (or any other indication that OXPs are being used).
I created an AddOns folder in /home/rob/.Oolite/ and put the OXPs in there, so I can't see any reason that they wouldn't be being used. (of course I'm assuming that every buoy is replaced with a billboard - maybe I can test with a more obvious OXP, if someone could suggest one)
Please help!
- Rob

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum! Not every buoy is replaced by a billboard by YAH – they only appear in politically more stable systems. What you could do would be to find a system with a population of 4 billion or more (check the F7 screen), and jump in there: it should have a Convenience Store situated near the witchpoint, marked as "C" on your compass. It should probably have a billboard at the witchpoint, too, unless it's very unusual, because such high populations aren't really found in unstable systems.

Well several things you could do - you could check your log file, this will indicate if OXPs are being loaded and as for test OXPs there are several which will instantly show if they're working - you could install the Lave oxp and then start a new game, if your view once launched from the station round Lave is littered with new stuff then that OXP and probably all others will be working fine, or something like the Neolite ship pack, which replaces all the standard in game ships, that will be very obvious just by watching the different ships on the opening screen...

Turns out I was just in underpopulated systems - as soon as I moved out of them, there were billboards galore. Hooray!
I have some questions, though - how do I take on missions? There doesn't seem to be a way to click on the carrier missions or otherwise take them on. And where do the missions from OXPs (like Long Way Round) appear?

The carrier contracts will be greyed out unless you've got enough cargo space to load them up. If you're still in a Cobra III it's unlikely you'll be able to take many of them on (very few of them are ever for less than 35 tons). The passenger contracts will be greyed out unless you fit a passenger cabin (which will cost you 5 tons' cargo space).RobMagus wrote:Turns out I was just in underpopulated systems - as soon as I moved out of them, there were billboards galore. OXP and built-in mission screens will usually pop up when you dock at a main station, before anything else happens. Sometimes they're triggered by being in the right place, sometimes by having enough kills or enough money, and sometimes by a combination of these factors.
