Who has an iPod? Put it on random!

Post by JazHaz »

List 5 songs that come up on your iPod or MP3 player, set on random play.

Mine are:
1. Bruce Springsteen: My Hometown
2. Pink Floyd: Another Brick In The Wall, Pt.2
3. DAF: Battered
4. The Band & Bugles of the Light Division: The Olympic Spirit
5. Michael Jackson: Liberian Girl

I have over 1700 songs to choose from on my iPod Nano (16gb).

Ok, mine are:

1. Ozzy Osbourne, "So Tired"
2. R.E.M., "The Great Beyond"
3. Sum 41, "Still Waiting"
4. Rascal Flatts, "Life Is A Highway"
5. AC/DC, "Danger"

But still I get the impression you might be a bit bored. Me too, since I did answer :-)

I only have 524 Songs to choose from on my iPod touch 16GB. But I'm willing to fill it up a bit more ...

I've got no Pod or it's equivalent, but here's the random selection from the 4589 songs currently in my iTunes:
(I've usually got my iTunes set to shuffle anyway; I've got the distinct impression that the software picks up on which songs prompt me to click the skip button and select those less frequently.)

Balindore : Capercaillie
Outside Of This (Inside Of That) : Jon & Vangelis
Hallelujah / I Know It's Over (Medley) : Jeff Buckley
Turn The Lights Back On : Lucy Kaplansky
You Don't Know How It Feels : Tom Petty
One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong : Leonard Cohen

Hey, that was six. Oh, well.
(My standard method is to select the first song, then let iTunes handle it from there. Even though this was on random from the start, maybe we should discount the first selection anyway, as iTunes is unaccustomed to selecting the 1st song.... )
"Actually this is a common misconception... I do *not* in fact have a lot of time on my hands at all! I just have a very very very very bad sense of priorities."

Choosing the iPod instead of the whole music library makes this less embarassing - my little iPod has 8GB, so I only have songs on it that I listen to frequently and, mostly, proudly.

1. Toru Minegishi, Asuka Ota, Koji Kondo - Zelda: Twilight Princess OST - Gather the Tears of Light
2. Red Hot Chili Peppers - One Hot Minute - Tearjerker
3. Dredg - El Cielo - 18 People Living In Harmony
4. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin III - Friends
5. John Anealio - Songs from the Black - Summer Glau
(Songs from the Black is a Firefly fan album).

Funny - nothing by my top favourites is coming up... after skipping forth a bit more, at least Fu Manchu showed up :D I expected at least one song by Bruce Springsteen.

Let's see...I kinda use my laptop as a kind of "bigger iPod" on bus or train. A bit over 5000 songs...

Guns'n Roses - Welcome to the Jungle
Santana - Jingo
Scorpions - Send me an Angel
Queen - Under Pressure
Iron Maiden - Killers

Using iTunes for simplicity…
  1. Paranoid (Black Sabbath)
  2. Good Night Irene (The Weavers)
  3. Rock Around the Clock (Bill Haley & The Comets)
  4. Walk Through the Fire (Once More, with Feeling soundtrack)
  5. Help! (The Beatles)

Dammit.
I never use random function; with the music on my PC being highly varied, I would have to skip far too often.
Now I thought to embarrass everyone, myself included, by posting the last five songs I heard, and wtf ? - Ahruman posted one of them already. :D
I once more watched Buffy - Once More with Feeling yesterday evening; mainly to compare something in the English and German version, but it is difficult or impossible not to watch the whole episode, once it is running.

so, as replacement, the other few songs I listened to earlier yesterday :

Apollo 440 - Stop the Rock
Atari Teenage Riot - Speed

realising I was not in the mood for upspeed music, I went for some muzak :

Mezzoforte (and Shakatak?) - Gazing at the Clouds (horrible, but I love the bass)
Lou Reed - Perfect Day (Karaoke version / instrumental)

realising I wasn't in the mood for any music at all, that's been it. :|

I tried adding my entire collection on the PC to the Xion player, and 20 mins later it was still loading. I decided to try my MP3 flash drive from the car, which has a load of songs I like for driving, and that loaded quicker...

01 Don't Speak - No Doubt
02 Inside - Stiltskin
03 Breathless - The Corrs
04 These Days - Bon Jovi
05 Eloise - The Damned

No iPod as well, and a rather odd (in comparison to the guys who already posted) collection in iTunes. Also I am generally only listening to complete CDs, not single tracks, therefore I've never actually used a random function. So be warned:

1. De lamentatione (The Hilliard Ensemble: Thomas Tallis)
2. My funny Valentine (Thomas Quasthoff: The Jazz Album)
3. Präludium Nr. 7 Es-Dur, BWV 876 (Glenn Gould: The well-tempered Piano)
4. Lauda Jerusalem Dominum (Philippe Herreweghe, Collegium Vocale: Vespro della Beata Vergine)
5. Delft Waltz (Michael Nyman, The Zoo Orchestra: A Zed and Two Noughts)

Mentally, maybe. The fact that there are fans of a game here that was made before I was would make the certain age a bit... fuzzy.

The Hilliard Ensemble! I'm not the only one!! I discovered them on Classic FM and ran out and bought the album they did with Jan Garbarek. Good to know there are other albums out there. What's the album called that De lamentatione is from?
