U.S.S. Enterprise skin

Post by doomxorz »

Hello!

I decided i would try to make the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek as a ship for me to fly, but am too lazy to figure out how to use GIMP and make a texture for it. If anyone would volunteer to do this with/for me i would be verrrry grateful. Please send me a message if you need anything like the texture layout or the .obj or whatever i would be happy to email them to you. I am eager to get my first ship done and will be happy to share it if I can figure out where to put it online.

Thanks!!

The Constitution ship does already exist in one of Charlie's old oxps, I think it is in navystarships.oxp.

We generally recommend you use Box.net.

Maybe you could start a Kickstarter Campaign to found your £4500 pledge. 8)

hm, WHAT Enterprise would you actually want? In ST actually appeared 11 different USS Enterprise, at least (some variants might hjave slipped me).

But for ST ship, I think best would be Defiant. Put two high powered plasma turrets with narrow fire angle at front of nacelles and you got just nice pulse phasers.

I always thought the Defiant (not being much of a ST looking ship) would fit into the Ooniverse very well

Hmm...Defiant would be very nice indeed, with dimensions 90x25x170 meters she would fit the docking bay actually...

Now, who would be willing to model it?

Why model it when you can rip it off and credit it from a fan boy site?

Here is a good place to start:
http://courageous.da-sc.com/gallery.php

I'm sure the model could be "borrowed" from one of the games.

Wow, I never realised that the Defiant had such a big, long nose ... I suppose it's appropriate, for the Federation!

It would make more sense too - not to do the Federation variant of Defiant for the Ooniverse but the "Mirror Darkly" version - already being in an alternative Ooniverse...

I had the same idea, but there is a problem. The only models I have found are for 3D art. They are far too complex to be implemented into Oolite if it is to be actually playable.

Has anyone tried looking at the forums or mod sites for games like Star Trek Armada 1 & 2, Starfleet Command, Bridge Commander and such? The mod communities usually have some low-poly count models for those games that can be converted to various formats. Some of them even make the models available as 3DS format and so on...

There's normally some kind of conversion utility for the models and they usually come textured too!!

There is an excellent tutorial by Daniel Walker here on the wiki. The techniques described do take a fair bit of practise to get proficient, but it's a great way to start learning Gimp. Why not give it a go?

That's mostly about Wings3D, not GIMP?
