Bug in DeepSpaceShips OXP

Post by Smivs »

Hi all,
Just spotted a little bug in DeepSpaceShips...the Gecko doesn't link to its image, so they just appear as all-white. In the Textures folder the .png is named 'gecko_DS.png but in the shipdata file it is specified as Gecko_DS.png (lower-case g in textures but upper-case G in the shipdata file. As all the other .png files in textures are upper-case I suggest that this is changed.
Great OXP otherwise.

Easy.. it's because Linux is case-sensitive.. g and G are not the same character so far as Linux is concerned. OXP writers on other platforms sometimes forget this, and get sloppy about case.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I had this happen quite frequently when I was running Ubuntu on my old PC.

Yep, Linux is very case sensitive, something they definitely relaxed on the Mac, because BSD (which OSX is based on these days) is just as picky as Linux is.
*insert sarcastic statement about windows not being sensitive about anything here*
