Under water or under sea are perfectly reasonable English phrases. I dont know why, I presume it comes from traditional seafarng taking place above the waterline, so anything else seems under, even if within is more correct.

Speaking of tradition:

There ought to be a yellow version of the Moray. Griff?

Do you mean 'The Leif Erikson'?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

I recently had the chance to have a sneak peek at an OXP in progress by Svengali and pagroove. This OXP is making use of the capability to set background images on static screens, which will be present in the next release of Oolite and I thought that it looked pretty darn gorgeous and that it made Oolite look like a completely different new game. So, with the authors' permission, I can share the beauty with you. Click thumbnails for bigger images:

Very nice!

Of course we will get a lot of requests that the buttons on the left side should be clickable.

Or will they be?

Wow.. Those are absolutely gorgeous!

I almost hate having to point out that on the charts screen, the term should not be "Galactic Cooperation" but "Galactic Cooperative"...
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Hmm, so the future may well hold custom background packs in a similar way to HUDs and custom sounds and such...

Me likes that idea :) They look stunning.

Oops. Thanks for pointing on it, Dizzie, and good timing because I'm still working on all screens.

Yep. I think you're absolutely right. Oolites devteam has implemented so much possibilities, we only have to use them. So lets throw in some more screenies here to make the screens more Oolitish. There are already some really cool pearls deeply hidden in this topic (119 pages!!!) and calling for players/oxpers/artists to post dramatic shots and scenes will hopefully do the rest.

So don't be shy - post YOUR dramatic shot!!!

Then we can do a second Image-Pack (so to say 'Made by the Comoonity').

In the next days we'll start a topic about it, because this baby does actually a bit more than shipping background images. It will give oxpers the possibility to easily customize a few things. pagroove has done some really nice work for it, but that's for another topic then .-)

It might also be better to revise the text underneath to read something like
All data is based on research and exploration undertaken in collaboration with the Highland Institute, Lave.
The screenshots do look fantastic ... we're entering a whole new level of eye-candy here! 8)
