Oolite shows splash screen but won't start

Post by Smivs »

Help! As part of an upgrade yesterday I installed v. 1.73.4 and all went well, but today I started the game, and successfully visited a couple of planets. However when docked the screen went blank and I can't get oolite back.
If I try to re-start, the splash screen shows as usual, then disappears leaving me with a blank desktop.
I have version 1.73.4 installed via synaptic on Ubuntu Karmic, with system-redux, galactic navy and behemoth OXPs. The problem started while docked at a SecCom station, and I think I may have hit F11 (or another 'function' button) by accident. I was probably aiming at F12 as I have a flicker in window view and sometimes going to full-screen sorts this out.
A re-boot has not cured the problem.
Please can anybody help me with this?

Look for a file in a path like GNUstep/Defaults/.GNUstepDefaults. I am not sure where exactly this path is generated on Linux. Once you locate it, delete the .GNUstepDefaults file and restart Oolite. This should be the easiest way to fix it, but your preferences will have to be reselected.

Brilliant...that worked. Very many thanks.

Just as an aside, this fix knocked out all my joystick settings. Easily reset so not a big deal but if anyone else gets this problem, just check/reset your joystick as well.
