I think it also depends on your computers capabilities.

Pods and also cargo_wrecks_teaser add some good fun to the game and do not seem to affect framerate on my really old computer.

On the Facebook Group Oolite! even better than the real thing! there is a discussion topic called Essential OXPs?

On there I recently posted the following:

My own ideas for essential OXPs are as follows:

Equipment OXPs:
Missiles & Bombs. Adds quite a few new types of weapons.
Fuel Tank. Pylon mounted drop tank with 3 LY of fuel in each.
Bounty Scanner. Shows bounties (requires Scanner Targetting Enhancement to be installed).
Missile Analyser. Tells you if a missile being shot at you is ECM hardened and what sort it is. Also (if you have Target System Memory installed) it'll change your active target to the missile so you can attempt to shoot it down with anti-missiles or use the Anti Missile System OXP if you get that too.
Ore Processor. Essential if you are into mining asteroids at all, gives the possibility of gaining gems, gold, platinum etc from splinters.

Mission OXPs:
Galactic Navy. Adds sector command bases to lots of systems. Also adds some fantastic missions against the Thargoids and Pirate bases.
Random Hits. Adds some great assassination missions.

Ships OXPs:
Griff's Ships. Fantastic shadered ships. Works even if (like me) your computer doesn't support shaders.
Deepspace Ships. Newly released, adds non-shader textures to all default ships and all of the three main stations.

Flavour OXPs:
Your Ad Here! Replaces navigation bouys with advertising boards, featuring over 250 different adverts, produced by the community. Also adds constore stations near the witchpoint beacons.
BlOomberg Markets. Adds random events that affect prices in single systems and maybe the whole galaxy.
Snoopers. Adds random events played through a News Network broadcast system.
Bouy Repair. Adds massive bouy factories, which manufacture navigation bouys and replace any that get destroyed.

Cheers,
Drew.
Maybe you could start a Kickstarter Campaign to found your £4500 pledge. 8)
Thanks to Gimi, I got an eBook in my inbox tonight (31st May 2014 - Release of Elite Reclamation)!
