Hi there,
I found Oolite some time back but only really started playing a week or so ago. I must say that it's really taken me back to the heady days of playing the original on my C64; the gameplay is truly timeless.
Anyhoo, I've gone back to my humble roots as a bounty hunter back in the original (never made it to Elite I'm afraid, I was Deadly for what seemed an eternity though) and have installed the Random hits OXP to add some flavour to that side of the game.
One of my recent hits was against a perp flying around in a snazzy looking Salamander - I have to say that the paint job impressed me sufficiently to long for a Salamander of my very own - so imagine my disasppointment when one turned up for sale at the Worlds End looking drab and grey (I also have the old ships OXP).
I thought I'd swap and rename the models and textures from Random hits with those in Old ships so that I could buy a snazzy Salamander but it doesn't appear to have worked entirely - the models seem to have changed but not the textures. Anyone got any ideas on what I need to do to get my dream ship or where I'm going wrong?
Thanks in advance, and long live the Elite dream!

Hi VenlyssPnorr, welcome to the boards! I'm afraid I am only qualified to provide the most basic levels of user support, but if (as is likely) my advice is of no value, don't fret! Someone with a bigger brain will be along shortly.
Anyway, that aside: have you tried starting the game while holding down SHIFT until the spinning Cobra appears? That flushes the cache and should make sure that the game reads your latest changes ...

The Salamaders in Random Hits use the paint job from the Neo-Oolite version of the Salamader. So if you want to buy a Salamander with Simon_B's new paint job, you'll need to install the Neo-Oolite verson of the Salamander. The stats are the same for both versions, its just the paint job that is different. Delete the Old-Ships OXP and replace it with the neo-oolite old ships OXP and then all the Salamanders in the game will look like this.
OXPS : The Assassins Guild, Asteroid Storm, The Bank of the Black Monks, Random Hits, The Galactic Almanac, Renegade Pirates can be downloaded from the Elite Wiki here.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the answers. I had tried flushing the cache, but as I mentioned for some reason I'd been able to change the models around but not the textures and I'm not really sure quite why as I had renamed them appropriately.
I probably will try using Neo-Oolite as suggested by LB, it's just that I was kind of hoping that by swapping the Salamander models and textures around I'd be the only one plying the space-lanes in a ship looking that funky...! (Plus I'll have to remove The PCC, Wolfwood variant and Aegidean OXPs but no matter).
Thanks again.

Yeah you'll have to remove them, but Neolite replaces them, so you don't actually lose anything.VenlyssPnorr wrote:Plus I'll have to remove The PCC, Wolfwood variant and Aegidean OXPs but no matter.
