A properly maintained and centralised database of OXP's would do wonders for the modder community.
I agree, but it would only be an improvement if it had a proper maintainer.

The wiki can do everything a hosting site can do.
Except for the act of hosting the files...

Instead they're hosted on 3rd party sites, with links that may evapourate with time. Or worse yet, on sites like oosat, a site that has decayed to the point of uselessness, taking a great deal of oxp's that were only hosted there with it.
Actually, Oosat is quite usable. Cap'n Hack doesn't even mind if you upload new OXPs, which I did with the first version of Anarchies, for instance. However, he doesn't maintain the table of OXPs anymore, so any new stuff will not become visible there. But decay?

I think you are talking about Oosat2, and here you would be right. The site crashed twice, and was as a site beyond recovery after the second time. However, most of the stuff is still there and accessible. The only thing you have to know is that it was backed up to "oldsat", so you have to replace "oosat" with "oldsat" in every URI.
Neither, meant http://oosat.alioth.net/

Plus cap'n hacks oosat doesn't exactly host a great deal of oxp's, only like 30-40 and hasn't been updated in 4 years.

Read my post. oosat.alioth.net is Oosat2. Please replace the string "oosat" with the string "oldsat" in every URL, and you will be able to access (almost) everything. So please, instead of typing http://oosat.alioth.net/ try typing http://oldsat.alioth.net/ . Then continue with typing the number of the node you're interested in. There are about 120 nodes. The link from my above post leads you directly to http://oldsat.alioth.net/node/1 , which is an explanatory page "WTF is this all about". http://oldsat.alioth.net/node/67 will lead you to the original version of SuperCobra.oxp by 8bitapocalypse. http://oldsat.alioth.net/node/98 contains Wolfwood's Cobra Rapier. http://oldsat.alioth.net/node/113 is a Weyland-Yutani Sprinter Prototype by Jimmy I don't even know about. http://oldsat.alioth.net/node/15 is the Tiger.oxp by cybertiger. Etc, etc... You see, even the names of the OXP creators are all there. Feel free to explore on your own. Just remember: don't just click on download links, but c&p them into your address line and then replace the string "oosat" with the string "oldsat" before hitting RETURN. Example again? In case of Tiger.oxp don't expect to find it at http://oosat.alioth.net/files/active/0/tiger-oxp.zip , but download it from http://oldsat.alioth.net/files/active/0/tiger-oxp.zip

Shouldn't be that hard to understand...

Again, read my post. It has been updated, for instance by uploading Anarchies1.0 about two-and-a-half years ago. The only thing that hasn't been updated and won't be updated anymore is the front page with the table of OXPs. Therefore Anarchies1.0 (and a couple more OXPs) don't appear on that list. Using their direct download link from the Wiki, however, you can download them all.

Look for instance here: capnhack.com
This is all new stuff that was added and linked to from the wiki, so not all links to capnhack refer to old stuff. I sometimes upload stuff there if the original was also on that site.

And I think a lot of links on the wiki itself should be changed from oosat to oldsat when that one works better.
