Ha yeah, that was a bit of a late night last minute change after checking the textures in game, I think i went too far with it though :) I've uploaded a v0.2 of the oxp that reduces a lot of that green in the spec colour for those blue panels and dials down the gloss level a bit on them too, i think...

no i don't think it not having a beacon will make a difference, the ship just needs to fly directly out the docking bay for a certain distance before it starts thinking about its role and what it should do next

i don't think launching ships make any AI choices until they've gone a certain distance away from the dock towards the docking beacon, so i think if they had a really long tunnel to travel, they'd just go down it in a straight line until they've cleared the tunnel and its parent station by a certain...

Thanks for the kind comments, a_c got some beautiful photos of it in the screenshot thread, i'm slowly warming to the design, still feels a bit off around the cockpit and 'nose' bit, an x-wing with its wings closed was what i originally thought to go with, not sure that was right for the ship

Seeing your ship from outside and the being auto docked sounds like the sequence that plays out when you use your escape capsule? the ship glowing also sounds like it's critically hot, have you got any expansions that auto eject you when the ship explodes and one that plays with the ship temperature...
