Authors, actually, like artists are (effectively) immortal.

Re: Randomshipnames.oxp v 1.3 released

EDIT: Further question: are rock hermits and their positions consistent throughout the game? Will the player encounter the rock hermits at the same places each time they jump into the system? (In that case it would make sense to preserve the names even when leaving the system, at least until leavin...

Re: The Oolite NPC ecosystem (and other questions)

It might be difficult to tell the difference between discharging a weapon irresponsibly (and illegally) within the aegis, and shooting at a legitimate target but missing ... but there definitely should be targets that you can shoot at. I'd suggest adding "fugitives" and "asteroids&qu...

Re: The Oolite NPC ecosystem (and other questions)

I like that idea. Would it be possible to set it so that any commander (including the player) gets an automatic fugitive status if they discharge weapons within the aegis *unless* it's at a Thargoid? That would crimp my fun somewhat but would make more in-game sense. (And, of course, NPCs need to re...

Giving Darwin a helping hand

Ever since I had to dart halfway across Galaxy 5 with damaged military shields (a little after this encounter ) I've been operating out of Xevera, a rich little corporate state with, importantly, tech level 15. Their grease monkeys did an amazing job fixing up the Shifted Paradigm and I'm happy rewa...

Which witch?

This is bugging me, sorry.

Which is canon: 'witchspace' (and 'witchfuel', etc.) or 'witch space' (etc.)?

Thank you...

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...

I'm making a run into Cetege—a little shithole of a level 3 Anarchy in the badlands of Galaxy 5 where they love their liquor, it appears—when it happened. There was the usual mix of lowlifes and wet-eared traders, and I was picking off a few low-value bounties, but in a bit of a hurry to get to the ...

Re: Why Kids can't use computers

Hmm. I get what he's saying, but there's a difference between not ever having built a car (or computer) and not being able to drive (or use a computer). I don't know how many buses or CPUthings or whatever are in my laptop; I don't know *how* the mouse knows how to move the little arrow on the scree...

Re: Lost in Z - help with docking needed

Cor. My strategy is simple: 1. Approach nav buoy as fast as possible, with station at 12 o'clock. 2. At the precise distance (to be determined empirically) pull 'up' to find self pointing directly at the dock. 3. Approach as fast as you like. 4. As dock fills screen match rotation, and slow down if ...
