Re: Impossible space engine, that apparently works

Ye canna change the laws of physics!
Five of the space agency’s researchers set about to replicate the so-called EmDrive with another one they called the Cannae Drive, after they were convinced to put it to the test

Re: Acorn BBC Micro in JS

Don't know about it not being famous for being fast, but we bench tested one against a (Zenith) 286 based XT and in interpreted BASIC (the only language available to both - BBC had C and Pascal iirc) the Beeb was 4-10 quicker on our tests, and if we added the 'run from boot' option then the Beeb had...

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous

I always imagined that all the 'spacecraft' in Elite were built of concrete, suctioned from the planetary seas in liquid form into molds. Nice to get confirmation that they would indeed be built in space :)

There's some serious tech on that site. Mine detector in shoe was a favorite, but not entirely sure that being warned just before you tread on a mine is a good idea.

Re: Elite: Dangerous - Design Decision Forum

In the past when exploring was for real the whole thing was set up by the authorities and you 'bought in'. The voyages of Darwin et al were bankrolled by the Navy and of course the participants got their 'cut' if anything interesting (aka Gold) was found. Later the East India company (et al) used tr...

Re: Iain M Banks has terminal cancer - not long to live

Apparently he was 87,000 works into his last work regarding the impact of someone being diagnosed with Cancer when he got his own diagnosis, 10,000 words from the end. Apparently they rushed the first print run so that he could see what it looked like before he went.

Well this had a very Pratchett smell about it so I googled to see what I could find. Is it Johnny and the Bomb by Mr T Pratchett?

Re: Didi you play Elite?

I was playing Aviator on a BBC 'B' Torch Unicorn Network station in 1983 (these had an additional 32K RAM and a Z80 second processor) when one of my colleagues (also an Acorn Service engineer at the time) showed me this new game about to be released called Elite from Acornsoft. Given that I was alre...
