Having fun with the bloom shader. In this pic, bloom overdose.

Is that some kind of very large installation on the planet or a magic circle?

Re: An Ethics OXP?

Those dictatorial annihilations at the Witchpoint beacon were only just recently added in by Phkb. Do you think that they are too frequent? They're certainly frequent, but not sure if I'd call them too frequent. They certainly do the job of setting the tone of "life in a dictatorship".

Re: An Ethics OXP?

Sometimes when I see someone get shot down by the cops in a Dictatorship system and bail out in an escape pod, after scooping the pod I jump systems before handing them over at a station. I figure that if they're a genuine criminal GalCop'll deal with them, while if they were unjustly persecuted by ...

Re: BroadcastComms MFD [Release]

Yes, the only characters Oolite can display are in the oolite-font.png file. What's the correct way to access the new glyphs included in it for strings? In other news, I may be able to do something interesting with the Oolite font symbols for Odonateans, and the Scorpax I'm currently making sound l...

Re: Planetfall 2.0 (apparently)

...During the slower parts of a trip (like waiting on docking queue) I often spend time thinking about the what life down there on the surface (or up in at the station) is like. Famous Planets gives more detail for selected systems (100 or so) in G1 & G2 (on your F7 screen). And Phkb has transm...

So no bats (furry birds), penguins (fat birds) or bug-eyed er, bugs? :(
Fat birds are possible! The allowed adjectives for birds are bug-eyed, horned, bony and fat.
No furry birds or bug-eyed insects though. (The latter would sound a little redundant anyway.)

Re: Scifi aliens described in Elite/Oolite terms

The way I imagine it, the ones that don't have a colour adjective are either multicoloured or their colour isn't vivid enough to catch attention.

Re: BroadcastComms MFD [Release]

BLAGH! Once again I had managed to out-smart myself. I had made a separate Oolite install for testing so I can keep this experimental stuff from messing up my main game... and then accidentally edited files in the old install's AddOns folder instead. Once I put the files in the correct install's fol...

The other thing to check is latest.log. That might reveal an error which is preventing one of the files from loading.
This looks like the likely culprit:
07:05:15.903 [oxp-standards.error]: OXP ../AddOns/alien_comms.oxp has no manifest.plist

Re: Scifi aliens described in Elite/Oolite terms

My apologies. I used 'think' and 'might' because I couldn't be sure based on what you'd written. Apology accepted. I suppose I could have been clearer in my phrasing. There's small and large but they've contrasted fat with bony rather than skinny, slimy with furry rather than dry and colours needn'...

Re: BroadcastComms MFD [Release]

To re-check, do the override files go to the AddOns\Config\ folder or somewhere else? Both files (shipdata-overrides.plist and descriptions.plist) go into the Config folder. I think I'm still doing something wrong - no matter what I do I can't get the new lines to show up. They always just respond ...

Re: Scifi aliens described in Elite/Oolite terms

Another thought. Elite's algorithm allows the same species to be both fierce and harmless; how would that work out in practice? Can you think of an example of a species in some franchise that could be described as "fierce harmless <something>s"? I think you might be conflating the animal ...

Re: BroadcastComms MFD [Release]

And this is probably a better way to go. Indeed. However, I'm still going to need to update BCC to allow for overriding all of the responses, otherwise you'd end up getting two responses: one of BCC, and then one from any additional mod. Having an override option is better in the long run anyway, b...
