Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

Basically, the only way to sruvive being jumped by a giant swarm of pirates is to run away. And most pirate attacks are quite large. The times you get jumped by a small enough group of pirates that you can actually fight them off is rather rare. And most likely, while dealing with those pirates, you...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

Rekrul, you joined in March. It is now July. How has your gaming changed? And how have your feelings changed about this piracy lark? To be honest, I haven't played in quite a while. Other things came up, I never seemed to have the ambition to get back into it, etc. I do that sometimes, I'll get rea...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

How about if the game semi-randomly created shortages of certain items, mostly the higher priced stuff like computers and luxuries, but all items could be affected? Some planets that normally have a good price for those things might be sold out, or only have a few for sale. This might even drive up ...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

Yes you can. Wormholes are tracked while open and if you enter one, the ship that opened it will be on the other side, along with any other ships that may have entered it in the meantime. I didn't explain this very well. Sometimes I think of more detailed explanations in my head and then forget to ...

Re: Is the core game supposed to have different colored stars?

No difference? I wasn't expecting that, I thought it was more than evident. Anyway, if you try increasing the ambient light (amibient_level setting in planetinfo.plist) not only will you see a difference, but you will witness also the second big planet rendering bug of 1.88. No matter how high the ...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

The way to 'create' this situation is to run. Once you have a military laser (rear mounted) and a fast ship (mk 3 will usually do nicely) then you only need to be occasionally accurate. If they dodge and weave then they only fall further behind you. Meanwhile your energy banks and shields are recha...

Re: Is the core game supposed to have different colored stars?

The images with intense color are pre-1.86, which had a different, more primitive light model. Anyway, always using Zaonce as an example, it is not the bluest star tint you can obtain. But whatever you do, star colors will probably not look as intense as the ones seen in those pre-1.86 images. The ...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

You can think of the core game as having essentially three difficulty settings. All three become easier with practice but they change your game experience significantly: 1. Pulse Lasers Difficilty: excruciating to hard 2. Beam Lasers Difficulty: hard to challenging 3. Military Lasers Difficulty: ch...

Re: Is the core game supposed to have different colored stars?

Colored stars can be seen in the core game too. Zaonce, for example, has an intense blue color that tints pretty much everything in the system. The F6 map shows the color of each star. Apparently the effect is much more subtle than I thought based on the screenshots in the rings thread. Some of the...

Is the core game supposed to have different colored stars?

I was looking at the thread for the planetary rings OXP and there are screenshots showing different colored stars, with this causing some of the rings to be different colors. I haven't installed any OXPs that change the stars (to my knowledge) and all I ever see are white stars, and some that have a...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

I'm new to this game, but I see a natural progression: at first the game is too hard and the new player will seek ways deal with it and/or make it easier (that's what this particular topic is about...), but as his/her skills, kit and understanding improve, it gets too easy (and boring) and off go t...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

Decided to try a parcel delivery. Along the way I picked up two others that are in the same area, since the time limit on the first one was like three times the travel time. I jumped into an anarchy system and headed for the station and along the way I encountered an Anaconda that was an offender. I...

Re: BGS 2.5.1: How can I remove the parts that I don't want?

Add the script_info somewhere inside the declaration (inside the curly brackets). E.g. Thanks for the explanation. I fear it's a lost cause though. I added those lines to all the stations and the Rock Hermit. The station tunnels still had rounded corners, although they were reduced a little and the...

Re: Why was the difficulty of pirates set so high?

Always scoop escape pods, is my advice: there's often a decent reward (usually more for Clean pilots, who have insurance; pirates are often whisked away by the cops and all you get is a quite measly bounty payment). The worst thing that can happen is that the occupant doesn't have any insurance or ...

Re: Where can I find the HUD in this video?

Now you made me reinstall Dangerous HUD. Here are the instructions for removing cockpit frames (I used the orange version, but it should be the same for any color): Thanks for the instructions, I'll give it a try. I really don't like the circle around the crosshairs or the docking guidelines though...
