I guess one way of doing a more detailed planet texture would be to progressively generate detail of the texture in a separate thread after the planet is generated. The first obvious downside to this is that a separate thread is a little more complex to implement, as is progressively adding detail. ...

IIRC Oolite is not actually related to TNK - it shares no code.

Hey Dajt, Excellent work! Using JavaScript for OXP seems to me to be a fantastic idea and could allow for some very interesting possibilities. I've only a few quick comments. Back in the mists of time when scripting was new one of the first problems that was run into was mission variables getting cl...

Having these ad-boards would be very cool indeed. The idea of foreign language adverts is also a good one. I feel though that it's pretty important for those adverts to make sense in the language they are using... I would run the Korean one past my wife (who is Korean) but she's got a bug up her bum...

Multiple moderators

I think that a decent solution would be to have multiple moderators. These days I check the board fairly frequently, and roughly know my way around phpBB, so I'd be willing to occasionally wipe spam messages and users. However I cannot guarantee that I will always be frequent visitor... It all rathe...

I made it to Elite on Oolite a long long time ago - over two years ago now. Then Giles changed the counters to match Elite kills, and I was back at Competent. I think I'd only racked up 256 kills... :-) Still haven't made it back to Elite since then - real life keeps getting in the way, so I rarely ...

Just what is a "normal" land/water mix?

Some planets won't have any water - others may be a water-world.

These are alien worlds - they aren't all going to look just like Earth...

I say bring on the odd coloured planets!

:-) Obviously it's a bit dumb that these large ships are launching from, and attempting to dock at, space stations. However these large ships have to get built somewhere. Maybe we should see some large space-dock places at high tech level planets where the large ships and carriers get built. They co...

I'm not intimately familiar with the logic used for passenger (and cargo) carriage missions... It may be possible that some get posted where the deadline is impossible to meet - however there is a trick that you should know about jumping around the galaxy and time... Smaller jumps take less time tha...

Very nice idea!

This should probably be under the Ships Manifest screen though - press 5/f5 twice.

The Electron version also had only instant docking. Since I was an Electron user I always found the full autopilot docking sequence to be very tedious when I came to play other versions. In fact when playing versions of Elite that don't have the auto-docking I tend to dock manually, since I can do t...

Slightly smarter scripting

So I had a thought about scripting many months ago that I never bothered to write down. Several recent posts reminded me of it, so here it is. The problem: Some mission OXPs have script variable names that conflict with other OXPs. This can result in mission scripts incorrectly thinking that aspects...

Ah, the emergency hyperdrive.... Way back in the mists of time we spoke much about gameplay problems concerning the 7LY fuel limit, providing mechanisms for escaping from combat, and for getting out of being trapped in Witch-space. A result of these conversations was the Emergency Hyperdrive unit - ...
