Re: Got to love Glasgow.

It's possible that Dawn Trader was speaking tongue-in-cheek - and anyway, what has politics to do with Glasgow? Apart from the upcoming independence, of course - when all the Scots-in-exile will return joyfully to Salmondland. <imagines watch-towers and razor wire going-up along the border - Gretna...

Re: No Missiles-No Weapons -help!

Isn't 10.9 Mavericks free for you as well? I thought that was the general idea from Apple, or is the hardware not supported?

Re: Progress

On the subject of docking and buoys, it would seem that an alternative (and more real-life likely) docking aid would be something like the PAPI system used IRL today at airports, where pilots get a series of red and white lights which change colour depending where the pilot is on the glide slope . ....

Re: Progress

If I go all Arthur C. Clarke on you the rotation should be lower for larger stations because the rotation is obstensibly to induce artificial gravity. A larger station will have higher velocity at the circumference inducing a larger velocity vector from the centrifugal force. Smaller stations should...

Re: Moderation requests

Most forums have the same problem. You are checking the email and IP addresses of new members, using something like SFS, yes? Yeah we do a whois checks against them and there is a discernible email address pattern for 99% of the spam sign ups (and we have practically IP range banned the whole of ma...

Re: Moderation requests

Sounds like we have the same problem - we had to approve the first ten posts because they got sneaky on us . . . We are more generalist though . . . So easier to make what looks like an innocuous first post on our forum :(

Re: Moderation requests

Not a moderation request per se, but I administer/moderate a phpBB forum elsewhere . . . Which CAPTCHA module have you installed? . . . We are plagued by Chinese spammers and our CAPTCHA Is ineffective!

Re: Introduce Yourself.

Yup notebooks generally have a minimalist approach to cooling in order to decrease size and weight. A good external cooler if you are working on a desk is a big benefit. This is why many higher-end laptops now use metal cases instead of plastic (as started by Apple) as hey help dissipate the heat.

Re: Windows 8.1 request for help / soundoff

I'm feeling happier all the time about having dumped Windows altogether.. :D Problem is, you'll get confronted with it at work, family etc. 'Ah, you're into computers eh? Fix my laptop!!" I hate that. Yeah . . . I know that feeling . . . And half the time the answer to their problems is "...

As noted, Balmer's parting gift - but I'd wager that Win 9 will be very good.
No bet . . . I'm sticking with Win 7 and it is pretty fast, but then I deal with storage for a living and have a disk setup that is pretty darn swift

Re: possible bug - licence to print CR

Ah yes, I realise now I have the sell equipment OXP, so it must be in there . . . Should this topic stay here or be moved elsewhere in the forum? Do I need to dig out who wrote that OXP or do they all check here?
