The big thing that makes a difference with Thargoids, IMO, is having fuel injectors. These allow you to quickly remove yourself from harm's way, allow your lasers to cool a bit, get a good overview of the battlefield, maybe fire off some hardheads, and then re-engage when you are ready. Well, background is in the back of any text, and overlay is displayed over any text.
Well that is what I would have expected, but I cannot replicate this. The text always appears over whatever image I use.

Does anyone know the difference between an 'overlay' image and a 'background' image on a mission screen?

Also, how does the game treat such images - does it try to scale them in any way?

The 'remove fuel' solution occurred to me, but it will have the unwanted side-effect of preventing fuel-injector use.

Hopefully the new property in 1.75 will do what I want.
