If you've just retextured something, please consider replying to the skinners cove thread and putting a screenshot and the texture you used there. That way everyone can look and quickly grab the change if they like it. Of course, that depends on how complicated the texture is - like did you redo the...

Lessee - the fighters Griff has not done yet - Gecko and Mamba - how about: http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt68/Simon_Bridge/gfighters01.png Note: you have to try to picture these with a griff-style skin+shaders. Personal observations here: 1. the engine is too detailed - need to shift some of t...

Well look whos been busy... hi Griff: I was wondering what a griff sidewinder would look like just the other day. I like many of the ideas in the new implimentations - especially allowing custom colors for player ships. May be nice to allow the player to use a custom decal too, though a choice of fo...

Bad news - my main machine, that I do all the oolite work on, is out of action. Which is why I've been so quiet.

If someone wants to knock the kinks out of the navy/megaships oxp, let me know. I don't expect to be able to do any more work on this for a few months.

BUMP: Hi Simon, What is the status of this project? Can I download all your new and old ships in a new package? Really nice ships. Grtz, P.A.G. The latest stable oxps are available on the wiki page. The rest are in development. If you mean the neolite-navy.oxp - it is unfinished ... I have the thar...

Pet peeve: RTF ... there are many oxps with readme and other info files stored as rich text format documents. This is what they look like: ... But why go through all the bother of making your poor player open a wysiwyg editor just to read this stuff? If it was a nice flyer then maybe ... but what a...

Resource - if you find fancy textures and special maps a bit beyand you, have a look at these examples . Basically I've found a gratis collection of maps - diffuse, specular, and normal. Most are reworks of math functions but some are genuinely useful for being tricky to reproduce. I'm experimenting...

Resource - if you find fancy textures and special maps a bit beyand you, have a look at Filter Forge . http://www.filterforge.com/filters/5331.jpg There are gratis images and effects based around custom Photoshop filters. Most include normal maps. Some have specular strength and exponent maps too. h...

Who scans as military then? I've never seen it. I've been wondering about the effect of changing the navy ships to scanclass military. If the megaships wan't chase fugitives unless they are police in scanclass (presumably doing an autoai to some police type?) but they will act if an escort is attac...

IIRC it's just an AI difference, maybe Mil doesn't chase offenders? I forget. The navy ships are all scanclass police. They all have their own custom ai - and autoai is explicitly turned off for some of them. Hmmm... the rogue frigate is also scanclass police. Perhaps there's a difference in how ia...

Todo - for the navy: Minesweeper. The model in the galactic-navy.oxp is basically a viper cruiser with a big round dish. I have in mind changing this to an asp explorer with a horizontal radar bar like you see on ships. Unfortunately, that particular ship has max_cargo=0 despite a likely_cargo=1. Bu...

All the text on those screens are from the game. For a change, the typos are not mine :D That grooves and boxes texture, that sometimes looks like it's worn pavement, is derived from the same source as the the Alien Hull texture that first appeared for the main stations. I got it off a web site - fr...

You wouldn't just happen to be a fan of the new Battlestar Galactica series would you Simon? Looks really good, too! The similarity to a Cylon Base-star begins and ends at the three-pronged-ness. This one is supposed to be derived from the Constore. [edit]yike - that's huge! Here's a thum...
