Re: Mining Asteroids
That's why you specifically have the Mining Laser. It (should) result in a lot of splinters from each Asteroid because it's "tuned" to cut rocks into bits, rather than the combat lasers which are "tuned" to penetrate shields and armour craft.

Re: Space Engine
Looks very interesting indeed! Shame there's no Linux version (yet). Unless one is building OS-specific tools there really is no excuse these days for software to not be cross-platform. Most code in a typical application is (or should be) completely OS independent and the small amount of OS-specific...

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
I'm still coming to terms with the idea of charging suckers to beta test, rather than paying them. If it's done right, it can be a Good Thing™. Absolutely! I've managed to spend a little bit of time with Kerbal Space Program earlier this year. Firstly, there's a limited but fully functional demo so...

Oolite 1.80 - wow!
Just wanted to say wow; Oolite looks like it's really come along since I last looked in! Congrats to the devteams, modders, and fans on the excellent evolution of this most excellent game! While I still don't have much time to get reinvolved, I did just want to pop in to say g'day and well done :) R...

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
Well, this "offlinegate" things has rekindled my knowledge of what's happening with Elite (and Oolite). Still no time to get re-involved, unfortunately, but very disappointed at FD's change of plans. Amazed at how far this news has spread - FD did not do themselves any favours here!! Even ...

Re: Hoopy Casino
The original rework of the docking computer had fast-dock also go to the nearest station (if none was targeted) to keep it consistent, however that was veto'ed as it was considered confusing for players. Or perhaps to allow the fast-paced players to keep fast-pacing and always dock at the main stati...

Re: Ooliteers Planet - An Interactive Pinmap
Thanks mate, I might even make it so far as to download the latest sources sometime this weekend. First I have to make sure the bike is going though - going camping next weekend.another_commander wrote:Hi Micha! Good to see you back.

Re: Hardware recommendations, Linux, 2012 March
I hear what you say Lone_Wolf but it's always safer to double up especially with memory. Needs+1. Thinking back to the move from 16 to 32 bit memory requirements doubled at the very least. The move from 32-64bit can't be readily compared with the move from 16-32bit. As Lone_Wolf mentioned, the form...

Re: Recommendations for Linux JS file editor
So Eclipse et al may be a ponderance a little further on, but at the moment it's a bit too far I think. But I must admit it is one I did come across and consider a little for a while.[/color] One of the benefits is they are cross-platform so you could use those tools under both Win & Linux. Alw...

I use gvim, but as for emacs the learning curve is.. "interesting".
How about using a full-blown IDE such as NetBeans or Eclipse?

Re: Genius - Legonaut
Coincidentally I've just had a chat with a friend of mine about our respective Lego Space collections we had as kids and I've just used LDCad to virtually rebuild a few of mine. Which got me to thinking if there might be a way to export the models as Oolite models.. would be pretty nifty to fly my o...

Re: Help with installing 1.76 on Ubuntu
The only thing giving me trouble is Oolite, which used to work , because the icon was there. ... I'm sorry, Micha, for the time you spent up this garden path with me, chasing a wild goose. Ah.. I had somehow misinterpreted one one of your earlier posts and gotten the impression that it was not just...

Re: [Release] Shaderfied Sungs Textures
Thanks Capt.Murphy (not just the note above, but also for your help via PM); v1.3 of "Shady Sungs" and "Shady Sungs Replacement" now available. The latter replaces the core ships.
