Re: Military lasers, for real.
But now imagine how far we could have got, if our civilian technological advancements were not the mere fringe benefits of military research, but would've been the focus of research in the first place, with all the budgets and dedication we use to reserve for 'defense'. Amen. That was exactly my po...

"$60 million for 2012"
It never ceases to amaze me how much and how readily funds are made available just to kill others of our own species.

Re: Netbook recommendations
Why netbook?
For £400 you should be able to get a semi-decent laptop which will have better CPU/Graphics built in.

Re: Debian package build system broken
When building 'with deps' you are using non-distro dependencies, ie, the ones which have been pre-compiled and are shipped with the Oolite sources. This is mainly useful for the autopackaged versions of Oolite which cannot rely on a particular target system having the dependencies installed or even ...

Re: Debian package build system broken
Apologies for the Makefiles being slow to catch up to the new Javascript libraries, and the Debian scripts having gotten left behind during the recent code reshuffling. I've been suffering from a very bad case of RL. We'll hopefully have a new set of Makefiles ready in a day or two which will fix th...

Re: The Whole Frontier Canon Mess
Exhibit 1; Excerpt from 'The Dark Wheel' Rafe chuckled and shook his head. 'You see, that's the big question. Your father was chasing the mythical planet Raxxla. Does it exist, or does it not? If it does, then on Raxxla there's an alien construct that's a gateway to other Universes, and all that's ...

Re: OXP loading order
This has been discussed before. There was no deliberate decision made as to why OXPs are loaded in an indeterminate order. They are simply loaded in the order the underlying filesystem APIs give them to the program logic - which tends to differ between platforms. To change it, we would need to pre-l...

Wanted in London: Javascript Engineer for UI work
If anybody is interested, there's a 6-month contract going at Sony Computer Entertainment. Given the Javascript nature, I figure there might be some relevance here ![Smile :-)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
PM me for details (pref. with an email address).
Cheers,

Finally - where is the target name when you have a missile locked-on? Target name when a missile is locked on? If I understand what you mean; compare YELLOW_1A with YELLOW_1B. In YELLOW_1A no target is selected, and you can see the 4x ECM Hardened Missile Icons at the lower left. In YELLOW_1B, the ...

Very innovative combining the compass with the pitch/roll indicators! All up looking pretty good! Personally I'd swap the Altitude and Fuel columns. I'd also move the Aft Shields underneath the Front Shields. I'd consider making the entire panel 'contrast enhanced' rather than just around the instru...

I haven't even considered the difficulty factor without heat shields, if it's even possible at all. There were no heat shields in Elite. So of course it's possible. The heat/sun-skimming logic is -completely- different in Oolite than it was in Elite. Hence the 'of course it's possible' comment is n...

Please don't misunderstand... this is NOT a complaint per se. Just a SUBJECTIVE wish, but it MIGHT be a wish shared by a few others. In general I agree with this - not just for this OXP, but OXPs in general. (I posted something similar a few days ago for YAH) It would be nice if they could be split...
