Re: Aliens: what's their deal?
You know the menagerie of aliens that inhabit the galaxies? Like the Small Yellow Fat Humanoids, Blue Horned Lizards, and Harmless Bug-Eyed Birds? What's their deal anyway? The humans have colonized most of the galaxies; why haven't any of the other races done any colonizing? Why don't we see descr...

Re: Xcode 2.1
So what should I do? Continue developing using the older tool without the nice bug fixes and improved development environment, or maintain compatibility with anyone using previous versions of XCode? A lot of it depends upon what the bug fixes are, what the improvements, and stuff. However, in princ...

Missiles still have their worth... I usually use them to take out the pitiful little minions (sidewinders, mambas, morays etc.) whom I know usually do not have ECMs (that is, if I'm overwhelmed with ships). Having said that, for the first time the other day, I am pretty sure that I successfully emp...

The EMC system does make it too easy to avoid missiles. A lot of that is the AI. The AI should recognize when the target ship has an ECM, or there's a ship that has a penchant for activating an ECM on any missile. Under this situation, it would not launch a missile until it had gotten close enough ...

Brilliant! It could be used in conjunction with my 2nd and 3rd suggestions.:D Oolite gives you too many ways to attack and not enough to defend. Oh, btw, there is a cloaking device, which is to be awarded for completing a to be written mission; this has the effect of breaking missile locks. There i...

A difficulty level rating? Hmmm... I don't know. :? So far Oolite has managed an excellent job to keep you feeling like your in the game. If you used an upgrade, than the game would seem more real. Changing the difficulty rating jerks you out of the game world. Ok, how about an alternate idea - sca...

Re: NPC Combat Accuracy Adjustment
I've been playing V1.49 all day. The NPC combat accuraccy is so precise I never have a chance to blow them up myself. I have three suggestions that could fix this: How about a menu option: difficulty level? Some pirates actually shot my ship up today. Sadly, they only managed this because one of th...

Re: Things to enable (a.k.a. Suggestions from the idea guy)
Enable Autopilot Docking with Behemoths (or at least a request that they cut their engines and come to a complete stop so that you can actually manually dock with them). Shift-C. (I guess someone decided to make it nice and distinct, just in case you want to try to auto-dock with the station while ...

Sorry, parking meters ain't my thing. But have you seen the Teorgean telegraph pole? Truly works of art. People in their thousands flock to land on the Teorge clone colony to see them! Over the past week, I have been granted the most distinct honor I could possibly imagine. Specifically, I have bee...

Parking meters
Today, I made a visit to Vetitice. I mean, really visited; took the shuttle down to the planet, and saw the sights. I saw my first parking meter. I mean, I thought I'd seen parking meters before, but I had no idea what a parking meter truly was. All I've seen before today were paltry shams, in compa...

Having played space sims with all three axes, I found I started off using roll a lot (by analogy to flight sims), but quickly moved to using yaw and pitch, with roll only to align myself with docking ports and similar. All... three? http://stat.livejournal.com/img/mood/punquinheads/blue/confused.gi...

Yaw would be nice, but I can't imagine it being done right without a twisting joystick or floor pedal rudder. Also, having a 'aerodynamic/space' physics toggle would be cool, the backstory being that people are used to aerodynamic flight controls so thrusters are computer-controlled to simulate tha...

Re: MicroScoop
I have always felt that if a ship is moving through space at a reasonable rate of speed (even at sub-light velocities) it would be moving through minute particles of gaseous deposits in open space. What if we introduced a piece of equipment that we could bolt onto the ship which could act like a fu...
