Really... Never noticed this behavior before, distance perhaps. Did a quick look at the Vipers in the default shipdata.plist and they do have the initially_on = no variable set for their Flashers. What then determines when the state of the Flashers changes as there was no condition_script attached ...

not played it but i must admit i had/have a chip on my shoulder over it. a massive fan of the games since that original release, we were begging for YEARS for Elite IV, they even teased animation tests on the website and mentioned leaving your ship to explore etc. Then, they did nothing. yeah. King Cobra was designated the Mark VI but the successor was designated the King Cobra MkII. just to make things confusing :-D
