Noticed a couple of interesting things over the last few days. Once I was near a Pirate Cove sniping pirates as they left. At one point I caused a Cobra IV pilot to eject so I left it to salvage later. I got distracted by something only to notice a Fer de Lance nearby. He nosed up to the abandoned Cobra as if it was cargo... and scooped it up! And no, he did not drop it again after I blew him to atoms in righteous anger moments later. Bah.
Another time, when I was salvaging near a sun, the Dredger and escorts arrived near the sun. Closer than I realized until I received a contact lost message. I had sanitized the area of all pirates before looking for other likely targets, so I headed back expecting to find the Python had somehow crashed into the Dredger. I get there just in time to see the dredger and escorts glowing brightly, then the escorts blew up followed by the dredger moments later. Oops, forgot that shielding did we?
Is anyone maintaining this OXP? I see that it was made by Sabre, but it does not seem he has posted anything recently.

Sounds like a bug in the ship definition. Probably the author defined "cargo_carried" for that ship but forgot to setSpartan wrote:Noticed a couple of interesting things over the last few days. cargo_type = "CARGO_NOT_CARGO";
to avoid the ship becoming this cargo itself instead of just transporting it. Shielding will just slow down the heat up. The ships are placed at a random position around the player. I knew there was no check of not adding it into any planet. Probably it needs such checks and a sun check. On the other hand, the chance of going wrong is so small that is falls under the normal risks of space travel.Spartan wrote:I get there just in time to see the dredger and escorts glowing brightly, then the escorts blew up followed by the dredger moments later. Re: Deep Space Dredger observations
Which version of the OXP are you using?
Long time ago Eric took it over and is developing and maintaining it. It's currently in version 2.4.4.
EDIT: the man himself has answered already. Still you should check that you have the most recent version. If its readMe only mentions Sabre, chances are that it isn't the most recent.

The current version lists as authors:Commander McLane wrote:EDIT: the man himself has answered already. Still you should check that you have the most recent version. If its readMe only mentions Sabre, chances are that it isn't the most recent.
All ships by Sabre. Scripting by Eric Walch. Messages by Little Bear. Textures by Captain Berf.
Nowhere is Sabre mentioned alone. But from the context of the original question I already noticed that this was the version that did salvaging and that is already the newer version.

You're right. His original Dredgers.oxp didn't even have a readMe. I still have it on my HD and just checked.Eric Walch wrote:Nowhere is Sabre mentioned alone
Re: Deep Space Dredger observations
Actually I looked at the wiki page, where only Sabre is listed, then I looked at his member page to see when he last posted.
The OXP version I have is 2.4.5 according to the folder and the readme, which does indeed mention everyone.
