Just a rant. i've had previous woes w/ Catalyst etc, as i've posted on this site. ATI proved themselves to be fkn useless and apathetic. and nwo they've managed to do it again.
got my harddrives put in, got everything reloaded and registered etc etc, got Catalyst 11.3. and yep, they've managd to introduce a great little glitch that prevents Photoshop using Open GL.

i swear, i am NEVER going to touch another ATI product EVVVVEEEERR.

You and me both... I'm still using Catalyst 10.9 'cos the AMD drivers since then are mierda!

In my lab (140+ Desktops and laptops) - we used to deliberately run a mixture of ATI and Nvidia cards for teaching purposes - but we've slowly given up on ATI and other than our XP based multi-screen Flight sim (which runs Black Edition overclocked 5950s) and some panic buy Acer laptops (HD 4650 mobile) we are entirely Nvidia based now because we just couldn't trust the ATI drivers to be consistent from one version to the next - we'd edit our OpenGL/OpenSceneGraph simulator to accommodate something quirky in the AMD driver only to find it was broken again next time AMD rolled out a new Catalyst

DaddyHoggy :

Have you tried with cards / drivers for the FireGL types ?

We stopped using FireGL cards quite some time ago - we've still got some AGP variants floating around for historical reasons but very few machines to run them in any more - FireGL cards are technically lovely, but for what we mostly use them for which is lots of Real-time 3D graphics they and their drivers just weren't up to the job - great for teaching purposes - but useless for practicals!

NVidia all the way here. Never had an ATI card, never had any notable problems.

Cheers,

Drew.
