Please start to work on:
Lord of Midnight
Carrier Command

And maybe Dungeon Master
You can extend the list...

nice idea - but - Giles made Oolite because he wanted to play Oolite on his Mac, then it was ported to Linux/Windows - I doubt he'll be so inspired by even these great games...

There's a reasonable version of Lords of Midnight
here.
Not sure how easy it would be to get running on modern computers though. Perhaps compatibility mode will work.
Cheers,
Drew.

DOSBox, an open source DOS emulator for BeOS, Linux, Mac OS X, OS/2, and Windows. Primarily focuses on running DOS Games.
(I have used it with success to run Might & Magic VII, Master of Magic, Syndicate and the original X-Wing ).

Interesting - I still have the original DOS versions of X-wing v TIE Fighter and C&C and C&C:RA, if only I had the time to play!

For old DOS games I use virtual machines. VMWare player, MS Virtual Machine or my favourite Sun Virtual Box.
Right now I mainly use VMWare workstation as it allows reverting the VM to a previous state plus running more than one at once. Workstation costs money though. I have IBM DOS 7 installed. If I want to mess around with it I just make a copy of the machine.
Unfortunately, (or fortunately) my gaming time has been taken up by Oolite lately. I have hardly touched Civ V, and I'm an avid Civ fan. (This is actually a testament to Oolite, thank you to the developers of the game and OXP's alike.)

I know what you mean I keep an old mac with dual boot so I can specky emulate a bit of syndicate from time to time. As soon as I get the amiga emulator up and running I'm straight onto everything bitmap brothers.

There's an official sequel (actually it's more of a "reimagining") to Carrier Command here:
http://www.carriercommand.com/sub/main.html
A talented guy started a remake of CC, but stopped when the above official game was announced. It's a damn shame cos it was starting to look DAMN good. Take a look and if you like his work maybe enough people emailing him will get him to start again.

But that Carrier Command site is three years old now - does the game actually exist?

Of course it does. It's in development. A quick look at Bohemia Interactive's forums showed a question being asked about it still being in development, to which the CEO of the company answered thus:
No, it is definitely not [been shelved an favour of another game]. I can assure you that lack of updates does not mean we are no longer working on the game.
Sometimes there is no other way than give development more time in order to make the game right and in case of Carrier Command Gaea Mission it is really as simple as this.

I know some of the guys at Bohemia quite well - Pete Morrison the CEO of BIS - the bit that repackaged Armed Assault (actually Op FP to start with) as VBS2 (VBS) for the military. There used to be two dev teams - one for BIA in the Czech Republic for ArmA and another team in Oz for VBS2, but they've combined them both in Prague now - each team feeding the other when one is more busy than the other - and they're very busy trying to get VBS2 1.5 ready for its May release (at or just after ITEC). This might explain why CC2 is on hold if not actually abandoned.
