Reverse up-down control when looking astern?

For playing by joystick. I suppose trad control would have to reverse the roll as well.
I've been looking through the oxps for such a thing but there's nothing obvious. Is it possible?
It would be really handy for defense, and some other things.

Elite Plus did that... but you had to pause to access the function.

I guess most people simply learned how to navigate when looking backwards.
But especially for joystick control there has always been a very sophisticated aft-view-reverse-control switchâ„¢: just turn your joystick around.

Yep turn your joystick round, I used to do that on my Amstrad cpc128.
Only use the keyboard now, it just takes a bit of practice to get used to it, but it's like riding a bike, once you've learned you don't forget. After a couple of years away from Oolite, I dropped back into rear gunnery straight away!

Rear gunnery is easy, it's the side guns that are troublesome especially at low framerate and high speeds.
I put a mining laser on my ship's left side...if I'm mining, I'm shooting asteroids and boulders from near point-blank range and at a dead stop. Even still I find it...tricky.

Yeah. I basically only use my side lasers on very big and slow-moving targets which require a lot of laser power. Think Thargoid Carriers.

In my C64 days using the joystick from my Atari 2600, I recall that I got pretty good and any direction firing, you just remembered to rotate to the "up" position which ever view you happened to be firing from and this worked just as well for left and right sides, it was just the single fire button was a little more awkward to reach!

In order to maintain my personal game balance, I don't use the side lasers at all.

And when I do actually find time to play - I don't shoot at anything at all...
I may need to start another commander just so I can!

The Spectrum version also had the ability to pause, and then change the direction of the keys. Jolly handy for reverse gunnery. Do miss that in Oolite.
Cheers,
Drew.

Everything is possible. Will it be done though? Answer: Not before v1.76 is out.
