Didn't AC Clarke write a short story about a society that collapses into chaos and everybody goes mad because they were in a trinary system where it was never dark so they didn't have electric lighting or anything like that. Their history told of the sky turning black and disaster befalling the world. Then it turns out that there's another planet in they system that on occasion eclipsed all three suns, except this system is near the centre of the galaxy so the sky goes black and then fills with the pinpricks of light from millions of stars...

Can't remember what it's called though.

:oops: I read a lot of Clarke and Asimov when I was younger - they were interchangeable in the end - as I have just proved...
