Saitek X52 Pro configuration problems (SOLVED)

Hi,
it looks like I've been away from playing far too long. When I tried to setup my X52 Pro again, I encountered problems: The old profile has been lost and due to a new oolite installation all stick configuration there was lost, too.
I do remember that the POV1/POV2 were detected by Oolite as joystick buttons with extremely high number for each direction.
Now oolite does not register these controls anymore. It simply does not assign a button, but jumps back as if I did abort the action or as if the button has been registered, but it's not showing up, still empty.
Does anyone have a clue as to what I'm doing wrong? I've both tried "unassigned" in POV mode and "button" mode without assigning a key. Nothing of this did work.
I could imagine that setting all to button mode and assigning the keys manually might help as a workaround, but I'd prefer to setup as much as possible in Oolites normal joystick setup.
