Escape Capsule?

Am I mad? Yes Very!
why is it my escape capsule is always the first thing destroyed or damaged in a bad furball?
I think it should be hardened agains such failure, maybe the one thing that is....
coming into Rave in galaxy 2 on an assassination mission I was pounced on right after hyperspacing in, no time to get my barings, no time to hit the local map to set a safe haven for if I had to leave quickly, my shields where stripped in seconds, my escape pod was the first equipment to be damaged, then my fuel injectors...then I got my favourite 'press space commander' screen that I love to see.
anyone out there who can come up with a hardened escape capsule that can't be damaged would be my hero!
