First extragalactic exoplanet detected… and it’s here in our own galaxy.

That statement didn't make any sense until I read the article - so it's "proof" that our galaxy is not unique in producing planetary solar systems, but isn't some leap forward in our ability to detect planets (across intergalactic gulfs)

I think they do it because it's a little cheaper than taking an actual photograph on site.

And also because we're living in a visual culture, and visualization is king. Nobody wants to read boring plain text anymore.
