*** It's Here OXP MIRROR ***

http://www.alaise.com.au/Oolite/OXPList.html

I've finally 'sucked' what I think I need from the Wiki to present the BETA release of the OXP Mirror

Containing more than 280 files and consuming over 800Mb of the Interweb the OXP Mirror is available

It's not fancy - it doesn't do much - it does force an ad on you for the main site www.alaise.com.au every time you grab a file, but it is free

The best way to use it is as a backup to the wiki/box.net - so when you go to the wiki for an OXP and it directs you to BOX and BOX isn't there - simply REMEMBER the filename you were looking for and browse down the page of http://www.alaise.com.au/Oolite/OXPList.html The OXPs are in alpha order, so they shouldn't be too hard to find.

In most cases I've only copied the most up to date version of each OXP so I'm not hosting old stuff - This does mean that users running older version of Oolite may find this site close to useless :(

I also don't have any notes on what OXP needs which other OXP in order to work properly eg. Your ad here 4.1 needs 4.0 OXP for the ads

Feel free to let me know if I've missed any files

Known files that aren't there yet
Griffs ship set - it's too big to download at work
Famous Planets - same reason
Furball - Site down
Target Range - Site down

Some OXPs posted to the wiki after 1-Nov-10 may have been missed, but I plan to revisit the wiki weekly to grab new files as they arrive.

I also haven't added the 'in development' OXPs but may do so in the future

I hope this is of use to someone out there

I plan on getting lots more Oolite files ASAP to have a single repository for all things Oolite

Thanx

VAZ

PS. If anyone feels I've breached anyone elses copyright or license rights please contact me and I'll pull the affected OXP files down

PPS. Did I mention that www.alaise.com.au is how I earn a living? If any of you happen to be in that part of the galaxy and would like stay here, let me know (VIA the 'contact us' link) - I'm sure I can give you better rates - in fact they'll be the best rates this side of Riedquat

@Switeck

I've just tried the original link in my post and the one in yours and both worked fine.

I don't know what else to suggest - maybe try www.alaise.com.au and see if you get the main site??

Thanx

Works for me (at least to the list page), although as said it ain't fancy. Two questions spring to mind:

* Are you able to track download numbers? I like to know how many downloads per month my OXPs are getting, info I get from box.net. Can your site also track that info (if I ask how many times my oxps are downloaded from your mirror, can you tell me?).

* You do realise the secondary task you've set yourself in keeping this mirror up to date with new OXPs and updates of the ones you have? Not a task I'd relish unless you've got it automated...

Certainly could be a useful back-up for things, although I don't recall box.net ever having enough problems to need a backup.

@ Switeck: The most likely explanation for your problem is that the site with the original error is in your browser cache and the browser doesn't bother to re-load it. So clearing the cache should fix the problem. It's at least worth a try.

I'm using Firefox 3.6.12 and I'm getting "Page not found errors" on every download link.

Mousing over any of the links in the page shows only http://www.alaise.com.au/ in the info bar at the bottom of the browser. It should be showing the full URL link to the file.

From the page source the original link shows:

Code: Select all

<p><a href="http://www.alaise.com.au" onclick="window.open('http://www.alaise.com.au/oolite/OXP/ACS_1.2_for_1.74.zip','_blank','width=50, height=50')">ACS_1.2_for_1.74.zip</a></p>
From your code it appears that the main browser window is redirected from the OXP download page to your commercial website while it opens a subwindow for the file download. This forces a user to use the back button constantly to return to the OXP download page.

It may also be a violation of the various licenses under which OXPs are published for non-commercial use.

Simplifying the links on your OXP download page to reflect a direct URL link to the download file would suffice.

Currently this doesn't work: http://www.alaise.com.au/oolite/OXP/ACS ... r_1.74.zip

This works: http://www.alaise.com.au/Oolite/OXP/ACS ... r_1.74.zip

Seems to be a problem with capitalization in your URL.

Cheers.

@Vaztr-
Please remove all Deep Horizon OXPs. Their license clearly states Non-Commercial, and you admit this site is how you earn your living and an advertisement is forced onto the recipient. I do not require mirrored hosting for my OXPs currently. At such time as I do, I have already built in a "Dead Man's Switch" into the license.

@ Vastr
This could be a problem as nearly all the OXPs (mine included) are released under a 'non-commercial' licence, and, laudable though your intentions are, this could be a legal minefield for you.
Like Cmd Cheyd, mine are available from a reliable source (my own website) with some also on box.net, and mirroring is not necessary. Like many mine are released under an Attribution, Non-commercial Share Alike licence, which does mean they can be freely shared, but if this conflicts with the non-commercial bit I suspect there is a problem.
It's a job and a half, but you might also want to contact OXP authors to obtain their permission to host them...it seems only courteous to do so.
Personally, I have no objection to you mirroring mine, provided the link goes directly to a download (and not via a 'commercial' page) and that it is ad-free.
The one I've checked so far (Boa Clipper) seems to link to your Homepage!

Edit:- The other problem I have with this (mentioned elsewhere I believe) is the absence of any hit counters. I do like to keep abreast of how many of my OXPs are being downloaded.
