Oolite Bulletins

I saw on the Wiki that different versions of Elite had different missions. Thargoid Documents or some such etc etc. Maybe you could add them into Oolite?

All the original Elite missions are already in Oolite, including "Thargoid Plans". The one exception is the Elite Plus mission where apparently you could get a new rank of "Archangel" after reaching Elite.

Other versions of Elite had different missions, though.

The version of Elite I was used to was on my Dad's old Acorn Archimedes, and that had 4 missions, none of which (as far as I'm aware) are in Oolite.

The first was delivering and deploying the Genesis capsule for GalFam.
The second was to eliminate down a traitor called Zartid.
The third one involved you being hunted down by a pirate called Pino (I think?) for killing his father.
And the fourth involved traipsing all around one of the galaxies picking up various components to make a vaccination for some sort of deadly disease.

There were some more differences, I think (after looking at Wiki and Ian Bell's pages). Those mentioned by Mauiby and something about a Police Viper... and another one with Thargoids. And a Cougar mission similar to the Constrictor one from Oolite.

So maybe those alternate missions could be:
a) implemented into Oolite
b) made into an OXP

Incidentally, the Cougar attacks the player on the C-64 Elite...I saw that 2-3 times.

i'm not sure if i pieced it all together properly in the end, bits of text were were stored all over the place in the code!
I think Thargoid's stealth.oxp recreates the C64 cougar attack, not sure if it uses the cougar ship, although i do remember someone...

And a video from the BBC Master version I posted shows the cougar very briefly...

good, that just sounds a stupid addition. doesn't even tie in w/ the other list of ranks, IMO.

I thought Archangel was an additional "title" based on completion of the Refugee mission and wasn't linked to your Elite Status...

According to El Viejo's screenshots, you're still Elite, and Archangel is just a title. I must say I do find it difficult to explain it as a title: I keep thinking of feathery wings and haloes!

I didn't like it when it was awarded to me... I prefer plain old 'commander', which is what it replaced.
