"Etat"?

Methinks Captain Blood's Dagger meant "Egad!" :lol:

:cry:

I have been doing so well...........During the last fraught and frantic firefight I was assailed and annihilated from an unexpected quarter. No OXP gadget would have saved me. I've lost everything...

Custom paintjobs for my ships, Dangerous rating with 828 kills, constrictor mission done, a really pimped out Cobra MKIII. All the OXP's I had downloaded and worst of all My save game folder :shock: :cry:

Thankyou Flight Commander Hard D. Drive for ruining everything!

BBD Very very sad........But hey I get to do it all over again... :shock: :wink:

<chortles> Only this time, perhaps make a regular back-up of your save-file(s) - just not on your HDD.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

I tend to forgot manual backups so I made a symlink into my Dropbox folder which points to my oolite-saves dir. In this way the backup is automatic and instant.

i have heard of symlinks before but never used them. any chance of a quick how to? would be nice to use my box account. would this mean if i used my box sync folder for my saves that if i was not home and had my laptop also pointing to my box sync folder that i could play the same commander on both computers and not lose any progress?
Arthur: OK. Leave this to me. I'm British. I know how to queue.
OR i could go with
Arthur Dent: I always said there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe.
or simply

It gets a (little) bit complicated to summarise, so here's a howto/discussion we had on the subject a little while back.
Using Symlinks under Windows.

Correct.

I was flying into Qucedi aegis when I noticed an Adder, a Moray and a Cobra III flying in ahead. Odd combination of ships, that - I thought they might be bounty hunters at first, returning from a successful hunt, and they got to the station a little ahead of me, so I sat around and waited for clearance. Got it much quicker than usual - just after the Adder docked ... and I notice the other two are hanging around rather close to where I'm sitting.

So, I dock, and have a quick chat with the Adder's pilot. Suspicions confirmed, I offer to help 'em out, and launch again, just as a Python and its escorts are making the jump to Isusle. No use to me - I didn't come all this way up the pass just to go straight back ... but then I think, maybe they don't know that: perhaps they've just got a ship description. I head out for the wormhole, full speed, and pull up at the last second. The Moray pilot isn't paying enough attention and falls straight in.

The other one sees what I've done and dodges the edge of it, and at that point I make my own jump to Reenus. Straight out of the wormhole I open fire with my aft laser, and they're dead before they can even start their realspace engines. Pair of amateurs, though I was watching my back till I got past Lerela again, just in case.

Reenus is well worth a visit, by the way, if you've a ship that can take the pass. It's got a reputation over the years as somewhere no-one would want to go - no trade opportunities you can't get at Reenus, so nothing for pirates or bounty hunters either - and that's true. Unless you have very specific business there, like I did, you won't make a profit on the visit - but the planet is beautiful, the people are friendly, and if you want to get away from the constant traffic and noise that the rest of the chart has ... well, it's not quite Oresrati or Qutius, but it's a lot more convenient to get in and out of.

Reenus, eh? I like those end-of-the-line systems. Isdilaon is a nice place too, with beautiful forests - but beware of the deadly tree snakes.

Just got back from visiting Sosole, G-2 - had to check out the wierd rock formations, being a geologist and all, but could see nothing wierd about them - except they were infested with deadly goats... that was wierd! :wink:

If memory serves, there is a backdoor route into Sosole involving Zavezeon and Zalaqura - that could save a long detour.

Down loaded 1.79 and installed it... all excited, had heard about this wonderful new dev ... created new pilot, jumped into my brand spanking new cobra MKIII and hit F1... just after launch, I went to make my standard exit only to find my keyboard pad unresponsive. What the ????? so got info on how to fix that... followed instructions and went out a second time.... The keyboard worked but it was not the way it was supposed to up was a roll, down was a left, and once again, hit the buoy. Starting to get to me...rechecked the repairs... and found the settings were different on American num pads. Fixed it again... relaunch #3....ship responded as it should... return to base... try to purchase goods... unable to purchase.... reconfigured again... try to save ship... nope didn't work.... complained to Lav Authorities that I got a Lemon.... told to make lemonade and had to take a refresher course on ship management and maintenance. SHEESE!!! Sometimes it doesn't pay to get out of bed. :(

Yes Brother, the maintenance worked and the Cobra MKIII: Ursus Horibulus is in great shape to start her career in space.for those whose maintenance needs tweaks:
key_roll_left = 314; // NumPad4 change to 317
key_roll_right = 316; // NumPad6 Change to 319
key_pitch_forward = 318; // NumPad8
key_pitch_back = 315; // NumPad5
key_yaw_left = 317; // NumPad7 change to 314
key_yaw_right = 319; // NumPad9change to 316

Muy bueno, amigo. Purely for reasons of research, I'll be starting a virgin Jameson soon too.
