Going crazy trying to get Credits for a Docking Computer......
So I altered my save file, and got the cash
and now I can use my precious time to tear a hole in space...
Even as an Inter-galactic Serial Killer...
I must say.....The Guilt is wearing on me

Whatever you do, you'd better avoid Thargoid's latest, then: the guilt would surely crush you! :D

Why not just dock 1650 Credits (the cost of the DC plus 10%) from your save file as soon as you can...pay off the 'loan' with interest. This might ease your conscience :)

Incidentally, isn't that what the Black Monks are there for?

Yes, but going the DIY route doesn't leave you dead if you default!

Would be fun if the oolite-save files had a checksum, so that when Oolite detects it has been tampered with it still accepts the new values but makes you a fugitive and increases GalCop presence in your system :D

Actually, Oolite does detect changes in critical parts of the savefiles and comes back with a message "Possible cheat detected" when the numbers don't add up. Whether it should bring additional punishment to the player or not is debatable.

Oolite (to my mind) is a game within a game. Half the game is flying around and the other half is building new sh*t for it. OR popping the hood and having a tinker. Sometimes you'll squeeze an extra few horse power out of the engine, sometimes you'll cause it to throw a rod.

Wheels within wheels keeps us happy.

A strange thing happened to me a while back, i docked with my cobra in galaxy 3 and somehow left with a cruiser (from which oxp, i now forget) but it was significantly quicker and tougher and far more powerful than the trusty cobra.
It may have been a glitch in the store section, come to think about it.
With my new ship the credits began to roll in , but i felt cheated.
Cheated enough to leave a trail of destruction and misery across the ooniverse.
That save file is on ice, for now.
So that's here's me back in galaxy 1 ,in a familier cockpit, trying to make ends meet.

:P

Every rookie wants Docking Computers first, but by the time you can afford them you're good enough to do without, as there's always something more important to get. :D

Cheating!

Hey everybody,

The only time i've ever cheated was when i'd remove mission signifiers to get them offered again when i would get stuck.

There are plenty of ways to 'half-cheat', like avoiding the space-lanes when you don't trust them, or running away and firing out of the back of your ship...

The rest is just time, and making enough flights (I might have an Oolite addiction, though...)

Onno out!

I'll confess to using that strategy as a technique to better the odds when I'm outnumbered.

I've got to admit that I've wondered why a faster ship sits at about 12km aft and lets me snipe at it with my Mil laser.

And not that I'm complaining, but I've never come across a computer ship that would fire on me with anything other than a fore laser...

I don't see anything wrong or cheat-like with using your ship's aft weapons. In fact, I would call it a combat skill being able to use them efficiently. I have not tested this myself, but if a ship chasing you doesn't even try to execute evasive manoeuvers when taking hits by your aft laser, then either the AI or the code handling this scenario should be adjusted.

NPCs with rear weapons do use them when necessary. This is defined in behaviour_running _defense.

I've never had any sucess altering save files, either on elite or in oolite,

if i alter, the commander file disapears from my save directory within the game.

never been able to add money.
