First I have to say that I'm coming out of Lurk *(see Outworld thread for that) because I simply don't seem to be very good at 'lurking'. Sometimes I want to type something on the forum of give someone a compliment so I'm back after a very short lurk. Just don't expect the same level of OXP-activity. BTW Smivs thanks for your excellent HTML and CSS-links BTW (especially Ws3schools)
Alright, now on topic:
On my HD I have a OXP called CommsDemo v.0.1.oxp. I believe it was made by Cmnder McLane? I love the concept of this oxp and I would like to see it expanded. For example when you come into range of a group then you should get the opportunity to join/ or leave a group, a patrol or even a bunch of pirates. I suggested this some time ago in the suggestion box in the topic Auto-join escort group.
But basically I want some more interaction between ships. Is CommsDemo still in development?

Welcome back from your brief lurk, PA.
Do you mean this
oxp by Kaks? I thought this was a really good idea.

Hi PAG, good to see you back!
I hadn't seen this OXP before but, yeah, I like this idea. It seems to have got lost in time...

Yep! that is it
I think it is a good start. But maybe Kaks can enlighten us?

From the nature of the last few posts on the subject, the v0.1 may cause F5-F8 screens to be screwed up till you dock again.

Thats a bummer. I would gladly do some dialogue trees for the different ships if it was 100% workable. Havn't tested it yet, however.

Sounds exciting! I tried it last night but never got a response though. There was a Python with its escorts, I marked the Python and hit F8 to get the comms screen. I tried all three options but nothing happened.

It is (partly) based on a suggestion I once made (and other people, too), but it's Kaks' brain child. IIRC and without revisiting the thread it needed some new features in Oolite which didn't exist (or only existed in trunk) when he wrote it. I don't know whether they all are implemented in Oolite 1.74.2. But if they are, I would very much like to see this project go ahead.

Perhaps not entirely related, but why doesn't the F4 key ever get used, do all interactions with text or images have to go through the already used set?
I hope the requirements get fulfilled, this was a very tasty starter
Especially if other OXP's can make use of it.

There have been a couple of different suggestions how to use the F4 key in the past. The hypothetical possibilities are endless, but only as long as none of them gets implemented...

Mmm, we have to ask at Kaks if he's gonna expand his oxp.
I agree. This OXP has some possibilities. The original download count was not that high (see the linked thread) but that can change if Kaks expands it.
so kaks?

The comms demo was indeed working ok with trunk at some point. I was under the impression it was working with 1.73.x too, but apparently not.
I've almost got .02 sorted, which is going to be a lot more modular, an will be using the new (1.74+) mission screen properties.
The main 'problem' with it was the lack of dialogue. As long as we get some nice scripted dialogue, we should be able to expand its scope & possibly popularity...
Btw, F4 (and F1, F2, F3) are used to switch to different views, and are virtually impossible to tell apart using script. All they can realistically be used for while in flight is to leave the mission screen!
PS: welcome back, Mr Groove!

Original Unoriginal dialogue:
"surrender and prepare to be boarded."
"I'm afraid I can't do that Dave".
"Make it so, damn it!"
"I am your father!"
"Do no underestimate the power of the Dark Side!"
"By your command"
"Eyes front, Twiki; you'll get starsick!"
okay, okay.. maybe not.
